that is progressing on the GB.

I have more than a passing interest in Shibari, as some here know. And like everyone else I have my preferences. I was going to start this thread in the GB, but why bother? It more properly belongs in this forum.

Regardless I'll just let my thoughts flow on what has been posted there.

First of all I don't like metal. My objection is based on the fact that there is very little creativity required in it's use. You buy it and employ it as it's designed. There are a few photo's in the thread that use barbed wire in a creative manner, fortunately for the model the 'artist' did grind down the points, otherwise the model would have bled out in short order.

The extreme breast constrictions are just plain dangerous. Restricting the blood supply to any soft tissue area can result in any number of long term problems, and in the case of necrosis short term as well. And some other techniques employed make me wonder whether the practitioner doesn't know what they're doing or just doesn't give a shit. Even in the absence of the model invoking a 'safe' word, the practitioner is obligated to be aware of when they're causing long term damage. Pain is one thing, permanent damage is something else altogether.

There are some very well composed photos of well executed technique that give the impression of 'extreme' while not really being so.

On the other hand there are some outrageously artistic uses of rope that I'm still trying to figure out the way the artist built up the image.

Look at the thread, if you haven't already, and comment as you will.

I'm a novice and have yet to do a whole lot. I've also browsed the Erotic Bondage thread and whenever I come across a photo of a woman with purple and stretched breasts, I can't help but think "those are done for." I imagine she now has the sag of an 80 year old. :/ Ick...

I very much like bondage as a part of erotic play, but some of the photos they offer move more into photos of punishment and even torture. Those I do not enjoy.

I choose to not spend time there.

Agreed, curiosity made me look. Torture made me leave.

I agree. When the limb or breast turns purple there are problems. That being said my wife has nice D's and I would love to tie them (not to the point of purple). Haven't tried it yet - trying to gain some experience with the basics.

A nice Karada or body harness that adds a little support is super hot though. We've done this. If you place the knot at the bottom just right - well you get the picture.

There are some things that don't make sense to me. I think women that are hog-tied look nice and all but its one of those things that's nice to think about but after you are done you have no access to anything (guess its more of a mind-fuck thing).

I like the simple cuffs and have gotten good at tying them. There are some really elegant ties though that I love. Tied the claw with a double coin knot one time. It basically puts the hand palm up over the shoulder and locks it there.

Sometimes it's about the art. I love the look of fancy rope work. I certainly don't mind something pretty.

I'm probably rehashing something that is widely known but...

The history of shibari was its use by Samurai to demonstrate the value of a captive enemy and demonstrate honor. So it makes sense that the more elaborate the tie and the more beautifully its accomplished the more it honors your partner. There's a lot of truth in that.

In actuality I get the shakes really bad (too excited I guess) so as I tie more during a session it gets to a point where I can barely tie a square knot. The only thing I can compare it to is buck fever (for those who hunt).

In my head the ties look much better!

My interest in rope work is to get someone into position quickly for the real fun. I like the different ways different body parts can be anchored to each other to make someone open and helpless.

You always say things that just... *sigh*
