Can we please get something straight? Maybe I have just been speaking English incorrectly for my whole life...

Dominate = verb, something one person does to another

Dominant = adjective, used to describe a person

Thus, "Hi, I'm a dominate man" is blatantly incorrect English grammar, as absurd as "I'm looking for a man to dominant me", yes?

I guess then Master is a better term. Although I'd rather be sumissive myself as opposed to a slave.

You really should know this has been talked about before. Actually, it's been brought up numerous times when people don't use the correct word. We try to keep things correct, because this is LITerotica. We like to think we are literate people and correcting grammar and spelling mistakes is just something we do.

It's nothing personal, but some people just don't know (or they know but don't care to use) correct grammar and/or spelling. We (the not so affectionately called Grammar Nazis) have corrected mistakes in the past, but it usually does no good. Oh, there are a few who respond kindly and some even appreciate our corrections, but most just tell us to fuck off.

Somewhere on the Cafe forum, there is an old thread about the most common mistakes people make called Language Nazis Unite! Many of the more commonly misused words are defined there. Yes, dominant and dominate are in there, too.

Oh, stay calm. The stress of correcting someone, when they don't want to be corrected, can be dangerous to your health.
 
Say, ladies...if you think correct grammar is sexy, I'm your man. But, on this forum, I'm not the only one. There are several of us. To find us, check out our posts.

A man after my own heart!!! Nothing stops the flow of wetness like awkward grammar! I mean some typos are fine, everybody has them, but obvious errors are a big turn off.

There is nothing more arousing that a man who speaks perfectly! I noticed in another thread where you corrected your own grammar! You sound to me like the sort of young man who would be a delight to take a walk with on an ocean beach at sunset! :heart:

Also, Dominant = noun, used to name person.

Perhaps he was asking you to be more peaceful, since "Pacific" only applies to a body of water when it's capitalized?

You don't walk around correcting people on their grammar in the middle of a story presented orally so why get hung up on it when it's written. Getting the meaning out of a story doesn't require perfect spelling, etc.

And nobody is talking about stories here. Real life using an verb in place of a noun/adjective!
 
I'm not a grammar nazi, I'm a grampar nazi.
:p

Actually my grampar nazi status was revoked rather recently when they found out a) I didn't have any kids let alone grandkids, and b)While my spelling and grammar has always been impeccable, I've found that I'm "slipping" of late. Things I should and have known in the past, I don't anymore.
:(

Grammar Nazi status: REVOKED!​

Though I am loathe to admit it, most times I check Grammar Girl to see if I am using something correctly. (note: NEVER check Grammar girl's website on April Fools day! :rolleyes: )
