Name: Dusk Ravenholt

Age: 28

Hometown: Sturgis, South Dakota

Occupation: Waitress

Picture: Here

Personality: There are two distinctive personalities to Dusk: the 'I'm at work so everything is sunshine and rainbows', where she spends a vast amount of energy being playful and entertaining for her co-workers and customers; and the 'Oh right, I hate people' Dusk that is reluctant to have any meaningful contact with anyone. A delight to work with, she's always more than happy to assist wherever she sees that it's needed, frequently finds herself as the listener to her co-workers problems - and she seems to care, though she rarely returns with dialogue in which she shares anything about herself. She may or may not offer advice, depending on the matter, but she shows an amazing capacity for sympathy. Best yet, Dusk doesn't repeat things spoken in private, so she is an easy target to blow off steam towards. Off the clock, though? She's gone. Not yet has she been convinced to hang out after-hours or even meet up with anyone outside of scheduled shifts.

History: Dusk is a relatively new employee, working at Quinn's for just shy of a month. She doesn't offer much about herself, aside from where she is from (when asked) and expressions of her interests (which mostly consist of videogames and independent webseries/music). It is possible that someone could find her live stream, in which she broadcasts Diamond Division Rank IV solo queue in League of Legends, though she's failed to directly mention the side-job (or even her summoner name) directly.

Unmentioned is that Dusk comes from a large family, having five siblings. She and her twin, Dawn, are only proceeded in age by a single brother. The remaining children, spread apart from each other in roughly two year spans, are all male. Her parents were not religious, but considered themselves 'spiritual'; in all honesty, they were functioning hippies. They lived just outside of town, kept their own gardens and relied on their own produce as much as they could, but had jobs and interacted with society rather than trying to start an actual commune. Her parents considered themselves 'new age' and had an irrational attachment to crystals and such nonsense.

When Dusk's aunt was diagnosed with cancer, she hadn't waited a moment to move away from home. Charlotte, the sister to Dusk's mother, had been estranged to the Ravenholt family since in Dusk's early childhood, over some sister drama that no one could truly identify the sixteen years later that they refused to speak a single word to each other. But then, out of the blue: a call.

Dusk had been twenty-one at the time. She was enrolled in college (presently attending her junior year), terrified of becoming an adult and having no real idea what she wanted to do in life. Dawn, meanwhile - well, suffice it to say the girls followed the tradition of feuding sisters (being twins only seemed to make them that much better at driving the other to the limits of sanity), and... Dawn was winning the "I'm an adult and I have direction" game. So when Charlotte called, and her sister reacted to the news of her cancer by hanging up on her and complaining to her daughter about that woman's nerve --

Dusk had been mortified. She called Charlotte back immediately, with her mother bitching adamantly in the background that she need not involve herself, forcing the brunette to rush outside with the phone so as to have some peace. She heard her aunt's voice in the first time since she was five years old.

Long story short, it felt wrong for no one to be there with Charlotte as she suffered and fought for her life. Dusk recalled her fondly enough, had nothing to keep her from just up and leaving (because dropping out of college was a supposed non-issue for her), and...mostly, she hoped the distance between her and Dawn would keep them from reaching such a state of no repair. To Seattle she went - and stayed, even after Charlotte passed.

Thank you for the chance to join. Here's my character concept.

Name: Logan Masters

Age: 30

Hometown: Los Angeles, California

Occupation: Musician (busker), regular customer at Quinn's

Appearance: Logan is a strikingly handsome man with tanned skin and dark eyes. He grows his brown hair long is a mane of shaggy curls that refuses to stay tamed by a brush. His facial hair is a grown in a neatly trimmed beard. On his left arm, he has a tattoo of a Native American design of a coyote. On his right is a tattoo of a Hopi dancer. He typically wears jeans and cowboy boots with band T-shirts, half the time with the sleeves cut off which only further shows off his lithe, athletic figure. His cowboy hat is something of a trademark of his. Two pendants are omnipresent on him. One is a pewter circle showing the profile of a howling coyote and the other is a medicine pouch. He's never without them.

Personality: Logan is optimistic to a fault. He's charming, affable and rarely rattled or upset. He talks and moves slowly, never in any rush. But this calm exterior hides a lot of complex thoughts. He has a number of trust issues because of his past and a number of old wounds still cut him deeply. He tends to keep most people at arm's length and while he is a bit of a flirt, it's rare to see him take a woman home for the night. Some suspect he might be gay, but in reality he approaches intimacy with great caution, seeing the dating game as a bit like walking on broken glass. He secretly resents the fact that he's tried to solve most of his problems by running away from them, but he has little experience doing anything else. Seattle might seem nice, but he wonders every morning how much longer it will last before he leaves again, just like he has everywhere else. Nine years of being a vagabond are starting to take their toll, even if he doesn't show it. He wants to settle down again but he no idea when that's going to happen.

History: That Logan has turned out as well as he has is nothing short of amazing. He grew up an orphan, never knowing who his parents were. It's a fact that he never talks about to this day, and in fact no one outside of LA knows this about him. He was a dreamer with his head in the clouds and didn't talk much. As a result, he kept getting passed over for adoption. By the time he hit his teenage years, he resigned himself to the fact that he was now old enough that the possibility of being adopted was infinitesimal. Most people wanted the babies and toddlers, not the teens. It was the second time in his life he realized he wasn't wanted. He became very depressed and withdrew even further.

One day someone had the radio on to a classic rock station and Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel came on. Logan was immediately hooked by it and asked one of the social workers who wrote the song. He had already shown an affinity for music when he learned how to freestyle from some of the other children. He took a hat, went outside, and started freestyling for tips. Within a few weeks, he pulled down enough money for a Peter Gabriel album and a cheap CD player. He listened to the album over and over again, and something just clicked for him.

He went back to the streets to freestyle. This time it took months, but he finally made enough to buy a cheap guitar. He practiced night and day until his fingers were too sore to continue. He had found a new passion in music. When he turned 18, he became a busker full-time. Blues, country, rock, reggae, there was no style he couldn't play. For a while, things were looking up for Logan.

When he was 21, things took a turn for the worst. He found out that his girlfriend was cheating on him and when he confronted her, she kicked him out. The lease to the apartment was in her name, so he had nowhere else to live. He spent two months crashing on friends' couches before he finally had enough. People were treating him like a burden, few really appreciated his talent for music, and the betrayal still wounded him pretty badly. He sold off whatever possessions he couldn't carry with him and started hitching a ride and hiking around the country, looking for somewhere, anywhere that he would fit in.

While traveling through the Southwest, he stopped on several reservations, where he picked up his faith. He found his totem animal, Coyote, and became devout in his own way. He even picked up a bit of the Navajo language. But the Native Americans were so accustomed to hippy-dippy New Agers that they didn't take Logan's spiritual conversion seriously. Combined with his natural dreamy behavior they considered him just another white guy with delusions or worldliness. Logan didn't blame them for this perception. They'd been knocked around even worse than him. Still, he knew he was wearing out his welcome and left.

With his faith he determined never to be sad and distraught again. He made his prayers to Coyote, tried to remind himself of all the good things he had going for him... anything to buoy his spirits. After a couple years, it started to take hold.

His newfound optimism would be tested in Athens, Georgia. He got into a relationship with a Southern belle but it didn't last long. She neglected to tell him that she was already involved with another man. When the boyfriend found out, he came after Logan. At what point in the fight the man pulled a knife, Logan wasn't sure, but it did end with Logan taking a trip to the emergency room.

Once he was healed, he left town immediately. He wasn't going to press charges, he didn't even want to be within a thousand miles of the two people who had nearly been responsible for snuffing out his life. He hasn't been in a relationship longer than a one-night stand since. The scar on his stomach is a constant reminder to him that not everyone can be trusted.

Finally, Logan found his way to Seattle. He established himself quickly as a busker and found a few haunts that he enjoyed, among them a place called Quinn's. He could go in and receive as much or as little company as he liked. It suited him. In his mind he still dreams of forming a progressive rock band called Ghost Dance. But he can't do that unless he knows for sure he's found a place where he can stay.

Sneaky, Logon, sneaky. You're totem is the trickster god. Maybe not the best to pray to all the time because lessons come when least expected. ;)

It's a restaurant with a bar. There should be two busboys min if not 4. One usually gets stuck as dishwasher.

Great beginning. Looking forward to it.

Will get something out later tonight. Squeee.

Oh, there are things about Logan that weren't mentioned explicitly in his background. Things that make his totem make more sense. Of course, it also helps when you're as supremely difficult to upset as Logan.

I think Nate's entrance will be subtle, after I have a chance to take in the atmosphere a bit. Not sure he'd play on a Friday night.

Although I suppose he could already be playing. Hmmm.....

Nate should play! I was thinking about having Tara come in to play from 5-7 before it gets busy busy but Nate would be perfect for that time. =D

Maybe I'll ask to play with him! =D

You can have them play at anytime you wish, just work it out with each other. And he's always allowed to come in as a customer, whether that's before he plays, or if he wants to stay after.

Things are about to get real busy.

Name: Jesse Trask
Age: Twenty-two
Hometown: Santa Rosa, California
Occupation: Waiter
Picture: http://www.mens-hairstyle.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Cool-blonde-hair-men.jpg

Personality:

He's charming with winsome smiles and gorgeous grey eyes. His job demands that he be sociable and tolerant, and it's a routine he slips into with ease. His true self, the man behind that mask, is snarky with a healthy overdose of sarcasm. He revels in the moments he can be a jerk without worry, when he can indulge his cruel and twisted sense of humor. Getting along with others is easy for him. An act. He's done it his entire life. Maybe that's why he's never had any real friends.

He's never had a relationship last more than a month or two. He just spaces out whenever women start to talk of a future together. Fuck. He can't even see far enough into the future to know what he'll be doing next Tuesday. Living in the moment is something he's good at, and he does well with women so long as they come to understand that about him.

He has this energy about him. Nothing tires him quite like standing still doing nothing. As long as he's moving, physically or mentally, then he's animated and wide awake.

History:

His father never wanted him. Jesse's never even met the man. His mother? She died of heart disease when he was eight. Child services couldn't track down his father. They put him in a foster home instead. The first of several.

He ran away within the first month. It took them days to find him, and his foster parents decided he wasn't worth the trouble. Off to a new home he went. A fire mysteriously broke out on the porch of this one, and the flames were doused barely in time to save the rest of the house.

Jesse didn't stay in any home for more than a year. Destruction always followed in his wake. It wasn't always his fault, but he was certainly the one that took the blame. He was eighteen the last and final time he ran way. No one bothered to search this time. He'd aged out of the system.

He wandered and did whatever jobs he could find. But he had no home and could not settle anywhere for more than a few months.

He's been in Seattle for a couple of months now, working at Quinn's for the majority of that time. It almost feels like a place he could come to call home. But then, maybe he's fooling himself.

Wow, what a great start to the thread! Everyone's posts so far are absolutely amazing. :)

I was reading back over my bio of Avery and realized I had forgotten a key part to her history. I've edited it, but thought I'd leave a note in case anybody was going to be interacting with her. Anyways please note that Avery has not told anybody about being married or about having a kid. Only the Quinns, at this point, know about Avery's past. Thanks!

Shout out To Gang:

When I post as Tara, it's going to be known that Tara is looking for roommates. She's found a fab old church turned into house for a decent price but wants to have roommates to help keep the cost down. So, for those living in "jet" mode, you can start thinking about maybe becoming a roommate. =)

I;ll shall post shortly, with the first night being Ryan's night off and just hanging out in the restaurant.

So, good notes ...
Avery is open for boning, since you can't make her cheat on her husband if she doesn't tell you
Tara is putting together a church into a brothel
And Ryan has no life so he hangs out at work.

Gotcha

(Kidding ... hit the beer early tonight)

Which is more interesting? A warehouse loft apartments or a cool stain glassed church that has been converted into rooms with shared livingroom/kitchen/dining?

The CHURCH DUH! I also thought it would appeal to the irony of our fellow homeless members. =)

Sweet! I'm hoping Avery would be interested too. Maybe even Nate at some point. Or whoever. There are a lot of people who just started at Quinn and new to the area.

Let's not be Melrose place or 90210. =P
