Do you think it's possible to be addicted to stories/reading?

Just a question I am pondering as I fall asleep after a lot of hours awake, lol. I know I have cravings to read certain things; I've seen people beg and offer favors to encourage a writer to write a particular story. But can you really be unhealthily dependent on story consumption or something like that?

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.

There's 2 kinds of sex: There's the physical itch your genitals experience; and there's the mental itch your soul wants scratched raw till it bleeds.

The antithesis is this proposition: WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN MIND TO DO IF YOU WERENT READING AND WANKING? Prolly some mundane activity that can wait till later or forever.

Sounds to me like a question of the 'Fetish' crowd.
:)

Sure.

Think about it, there are definitely people addicted to porn. years ago people were spending their entire pay checks on phone sex, now they do it with web cams.

people who blow all their money going to strip clubs night after night are sex addicts and reading erotica to the point you can't get it out of your head is an addiction like the rest.

The good thing is that the stories are free here so at least you are not heading for financial ruin.

Addictions are not inherently sexual, though. I don't think a non-sexual addiction would be considered a fetish. I guess if it's reading erotica specifically, but still the reading isn't compelling because it's arousing, but a completely different kind of escapism or catharsis related satisfaction.

Every addiction and obsession I know of boils down to a sense of contentment. Every alcoholic is just as happy to be at AA as he is at a bar. The trouble comes when folks cant get to the contentment or happy place but one way, thru drugs or alcohol or sex or collecting stray animals or whatever. Show them how to do it cheaper, and they'll change their evil ways like right now.

Depends who has written the story, I have my favorite authors

I have been addicted to reading since I was five. So far the only adverse effects i have suffered is not facing some problems face on--such as escaping an alcoholic father into a book. On the other hand, the folks I meet in books are far more interesting than most folks n real life. Incidentally, I do suffer withdrawal if i don't get my D O C or if I get a bad dose of reading

It also depends on the stories subjects, if they are erotic, then yes I am addicted, I also write them for my own enjoyment. I sometimes get lost in my own little world, and cant help masturbating, if the story is arousing. Do I need help then?

I'm not sure if it's an addiction, but

I have had a book, or books, being currently read, constantly since I learned to read. Usually one after the other, like a chain smoker. Certainly never more than a few days between ending one book and starting another. It's a rare night that I don't do at least a chapter before I go to sleep.

And that's in addition to the erotic stories I read on line. I usually read at least one a day, probably much more. I would hate to see my laptop if I notched it every time I finished one.

I don't know if that counts as an addiction or not, I mean I could stop anytime, anytime I tell, you. Just stop and that's it. I don't need it. No, not at all, I could stop, been meaning to all these years, just never go around to it, that's all.
