I guess I see my version of America as not letting a loud group of people deciding who needs to be arrested and who does not. I see my version as letting the police do their jobs and trusting that they ACTUALLY knows what happened as they were ACTUALLY there. NONE of these other people where. You were not, I was not.

I see my version of America is having a police force, justice system, etc that will do the right thing....without having any outside influence in the decision making because it is better off politically for it to happen one way or another.

(by the way, the Office in Charge (or whatever his title was), which was then fired, but testified that a complete investigation was made and that there was no indication of anything but self-defense. Seems that man, and his officers would have a much better idea of what happened than other people across the country.....Monday morning quarterbacking.)

You are correct. There is absolutely no way that this was a case of self-defense. Of course, since the victim was black and this shooter was white, I don't expect you to agree with me. And for the record, I do not believe you are a racist. I do, however, believe you routinely use race to justify your opinion.

The "complete investigation" is a matter of opinion. The Sanford police didn't even bag Martin's hands (to protect gunpowder residue from being washed away). Anyone who has seen even a couple of episodes of Law and Order knows this is basic police procedure.

I would suggest that unless you worked for the Sanford police, and you were present at the scene, then you truly have no idea what took place.

There are views from both sides. I guess I tend to believe the Police Chief that ended up being fired because he would not be pressured into arresting someone for the sake of "appeasing" a group of people.

I will agree with you, I am not racist. I do, however, get beyond sick of people using race as a reason for every wrong doing in the country. Sometimes things happen. Sometimes, people get hurt. Sometimes, innocents get hurt. Always, those things are horrible.

Again, Trayvon was no more nor any less important than any other person who gets killed in this country. They ALL have value. I just wish as much concern, attention, media, etc was given to those others hundreds or whatever, that are killed every week.

Fired Sanford Police Chief Was Told ‘We Just Want an Arrest’ of Zimmerman


In an interview with CNN, former Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee explained that he was fired from his post for trying to conduct an objective investigation into the shooting of Trayvon Martin.

Lee told CNN that he decided not to arrest George Zimmerman because doing so would be a violation of his Fourth Amendment rights. “The evidence and testimony that we had didn’t get us to probable cause,” said Lee, referring to the constitutional criteria required before making an arrest.

Lee was repeatedly asked by the Sanford City Manager, “Can an arrest be made now?” and he was at one point told by a City Commissioner: “We just want an arrest.”

The decision not to charge Zimmerman prompted a media storm, as news pundits charged that the Sanford Police Department acted in a negligent or even racist manner. According to Lee, the politicization of the investigation led media outlets to release misleading and sensitive pieces of evidence that suggested Zimmerman racially profiled and targeted Martin.

In June of last year, Lee was officially fired by the Sanford City government, and a special prosecutor was appointed by the governor who charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder. Looking back, Lee said that he remains proud of his actions: “I upheld my oath to abide by the laws of the state of Florida and the constitution, and I’m happy that at the end of the day I can walk away with my integrity.”

It might help to remember exactly WHY this case garnered so much attention in the first place...An unarmed Negro kid was gun downed by a White (later Hispanic) cop wannabee, and even though the police had a dead body and a shooter, they initially declined to press charges of ANY kind.

Now, I don't know about you, but in my version of America I don't want cops decidin' guilt or innocence. If they had done their job and let the Grand Jury decide on the merits of Zimmerman's account, I don't think this case would have garnered much publicity at all.

The police and local district attorney absolutely failed to do their job, and people were outraged.

Sometimes street cops decide to make an arrest on minor cases, such as disorderly conduct or traffic infractions or drunk, etc. However, in the case of a shooting, they do not have that choice. That is up to the prosecutors, and they look over a case before deciding whether or not to proceed to trial.

In this case, they had a neighborhood watchman who claimed self-defense in the shooting of a young man. The prosecutors listened to a tape of the 911 call he made, interviewed witnesses and the shooter and observed his injuries. They decided then the shooter was almost certainly telling the truth, and that a trial would be expensive and would almost certainly result in an acquittal, with the probable result of race riots. Given these facts and estimates, the prosecutors decided against pursuing a charge. You can call that sweeping it under the rug if you want, but that would have been far better than what is likely to happen this weekend and next week.

Apparently the judge has ruled that jurors will not consider a third degree murder charge.

I posted elsewhere that the 3rd degree charge is absurd in that it applies to cases of child abuse. But child abuse doesn't apply unless Zimmerman was Trayvons custodian when the shooting occurred. The motion is almost as absurd as charging Zimmerman with rape or contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The prosecutors closing argument is equally bizarre, it all started with Zimmermans sinister plan to organize a crime watch cell to prey on blacks.

I voted for Barack Obama three times. I would vote for him again against any Republican. However I am disappointed with his incompetence. That is the problem with affirmative action.

I do not believe that all blacks are inferior to all whites. Some are obviously more intelligent than most whites. Many are more decent than many whites. Nor do I believe that the civil rights legislation should be repealed. I would like for it to be narrowly interpreted, however.

What I do believe is that obvious differences in average intelligence and behavior between various races are almost exclusively genetic, and they will not change any time soon. By any time soon I mean for at lease many hundreds of years. Evolution takes time. Unfortunately right now we are preserving the least valuable genes in the Negro genome with policies like Aid to Children with Dependent Children.
