Coprophagia

Feed her pineapple. It won't stop her from eating what's left by other dogs, but it may make dislike her own.

YOU!

Where have you been?!?!?

I've been dying to talk to you about how fab the new Kurt Vile album is!

I have three dogs that all eat cat shit pretty much on a regular basis and they are as healthy as they can get. Been going on for five years.

I took her on Monday for a walk in the park where I've I got to use a pick-up-baggie and drop it in the can. When we got to the can, she stopped, planted her legs and spent about 5 minutes attempting to find out how she could get in to that great meal she could smell.

One of my favorite motivational speeches used to go something like this:

"You know why it's so hard to make a shit eating dog stop eating shit?"

Because nobody know why he eats shit.

If you use that line often enough, sooner or later, you run across a smartass who knows the answer. In this case, it was Recidiva. She says dogs are basically scavengers and they go by smell. If it smells like food, it is food.

I've heard all the standard remedies, from vitamin and mineral supplements, to some kind of powder that makes dog shit taste bad. I giggle every time I think about that one. The real problem is us. We're the one's who think it's disgusting. The dog is just doing what comes natural.

Some friends use a leash called the "Gentle Leader," which sounds like a North Korean autocrat. Point is, part of the harness goes around their snout (not like a muzzle--farther back and looser) so that when they get to the end of their leash, instead of jerking or stopping short, it turns the dog's head and they go elsewhere.

Just a thought for you. If dog is going for shit, he would have to turn elsewhere before he gets there.

My dog used to do this. It'll take awhile to get the dog to stop, but hopefully yours will eventually. I don't know if pineapple works. Mine wouldn't eat it. Just had to pick up the poop immediately and correct her if she tried to go for it (snapping or saying "ah-ah" in a firm voice).

Oh, getting her to eat slower helped too. She used to just wolf it down so I spread her food out.

It is impossible to make a Welsh Pembroke Corgi eat slower. If she was one year old or even two, I'd put more effort to it, but since she's eight attempting to break what is probably a lifelong habit isn't worth my own stress.

Keeping her busy and interested in other things works most of the time - but she never forgets where she was when she pooped and always sneaks back to the spot later to have a snack if it is still there.

So the current method is pick it up before she can return and commit the crime.

I'll add some browned Venison to her diet and see if some near raw meat will help.

i don't understand those who fuss and worry over pets like they were people or something. it's weird.

moral obligation. anything in your care/possession, whether a child, animal or crazy dementia ridden granny, you have a moral obligation to ensure its wellbeing.

Maybe sprinkle chili powder over the spot after you pick up poop? Dogs aren't supposed to like the smell. Might deter her from going looking for it after awhile.

Good luck. :)

I think her emotional well being is best served by allowing her to eat the poop and then tossing her a mouth cleaning biscuit.

i guess but i can't keep a plant alive so don't bother with anything. this dog seems like a giant pain in the ass and it would make my life miserable.

I tried chili and cayenne on my Japanese Maple.

The little shit ate it anyway. Didn't seem to phase her in the least little bit; gnawed all the bark off...

Did you even try the green apple spray?

At that age, who knows? I do not think dogs have any sense of taste after watching them smell things most foul and eat it any way...

;) ;)

Green apple, I must confess, however, did not save my tree either.

It doesn't make me miserable - it gives me a problem (and a minor one at that) to work through. Success would make me happy, but failure (expected) will not upset me.

to be honest - I've yet to find anything this particular little pembroke won't eat. If it hits the floor or ground it must be food.

Sounds like the dachshunds.

The daughter's will eat anything dropped and the Queen's has learned to try and beat her to it just so she cannot eat it. (But at least they will now eat the left-over broccoli stalks that Princess refuses to eat. :D )

In-freaking-credible!

She loves broccoli, asparagus (eats it straight from the plant, the bitch), lettuce, spinach, dandelion tops, grass, apples, carrots, peaches, banana, rice and just about everything). The only thing she didn't eat all of was mushrooms.

The only thing my little clowns will not touch is plain white rice.

It really makes me curious as to why.
