Shock! Horror!

UKIP won our County Council seats, defeating the Conservatives. Labour came third; Lib Dems almost nowhere.

I attended an arts event earlier this evening. The general opinion about the result is that the electorate are saying: "A plague on all your houses".

What little is known about the new councillors isn't encouraging. It is nearly as bad as what is known about almost all the other unsuccessful candidates.

The result has no impact on the control of Kent. The Conservatives still have a majority, but a greatly reduced one. UKIP are now the second largest political group, ahead of Labour.

What will the UKIP councillors actually do? Their campaign has said very little about local issues.

The next three years could be *interesting* as in the ancient Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times.".

I think the Duke of Wellington's quote might be an appropriate description of many of the candidates:

"I never saw so many shocking bad hats in my life." ( After seeing the first Reformed Parliament)..Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington (1769–1852)

Pet problems

One of our cats has an injured paw. We'd like to take her to the vet to have the wound examined and dressed. But - it's a Bank Holiday weekend and the cat has gone walkabout, not limping, so the injury can't be severe.

We have a dog bowl full of water at the front of our property for passing dogs. Last night it went missing - again. It always happens on Friday nights. I've been dog bowl hunting - again. There is no sign of it. I'll have to wait for low tide to see whether it was thrown into the sea. That is the 8th stainless steel dog bowl we have lost in the last five years, always on a Friday night. It is a nuisance.

Why does it always happen only on a Friday night?

What velocity does the main casing shake at during the spin cycle?

Unless you're planning to ride it through the neighbours' back gardens, I think you mean "frequency..." ;)

No; Velocity is the right word. How far it moves at that Velocity may be a different question, though. The answer to the question is Mach 1.

Frequency is adjustable, depending upon spin speed (as is the motor).
"Frantic" is not advised until completion of training.
"Panic" may require a visit to the Hospital.

I always thought velocity was an expression of the rate of change of an object's direction (i.e. its speed and direction of movement). But I freely admit, I ain't no physicist...

I should have defined the answer a little clearer, but was relying on the Oxford on my PC, not on classical mechanics. Further research reveals the following:-

Wiki: In kinematics, velocity is the rate of change of the position of an object, equivalent to a specification of its speed and direction of motion. Speed describes only how fast an object is moving, whereas velocity gives both how fast and in what direction the object is moving.

I'm not sure I'm any the wiser, mate.

But then again, I'm on my second glass of wine...

Yesterday evening, as I do most Spring and Summer weekends, I cleared litter from our local beach and the road backing it. I collected five carrier bags full.

This evening, after a sunny Bank Holiday Monday when all the roads around were parked to capacity and the beach was crowded, I cleared litter again. This time I only had two bags full. But all the Council's litter bins were full and most were surrounded by bags of more rubbish.

If people don't see litter, they are less likely to drop their own.

Kung fu class beath the shit out of mye tonight, and yet i only treally took three actual hitsd. fucking typos.

Everyone keeps telling me it will be self-destructive, but it's the only thing that feels right to me.

Yes, of course I arranged to be stuck in traffic for nearly an hour just to piss you off! And of course I'll use my legendary powers of fucking levitation to "hurry up!"

Really cannot believe that the charming film The Boy Friend, with Twiggy, is not available on DVD for Britain! It was the first film I was allowed to stay up late to watch. I still vividly remember it. :(

Do you mean the Ken Russell 1971 film ?
It's on You Tube. I'm downloading it; all the parts.
:)
