For me it just comes down to trust. Very rarely (three times in the last ten years) do I have any kind of sex with someone I don't know, and only one of those was unprotected.

- Don't brush your teeth before or after. Don't go to the dentist before same day oral sex.

- rinsing your mouth after sex helps (I am not convinced of this).


I think about it enough that I will not have oral sex with someone I don't know or who's sexual history is suspect. I would prefer a doctor's report, but that's pretty unrealistic.

According to what i have seen you must use protection anytime you have sex with someone you don't know, are not having a relationship with, or don't trust to stay only in your bed.

This includes those dental dams, I think that's the name for them, condoms and believe it or not, surgical gloves.

There is a reason for this, any cut or abrasion can lead to you being infected if it comes in contact with fluids from a carrier. Some cuts are so small you can't see them, some aren't even cuts but just a thinness in your skin, like cuticles, how many people keep them trimmed or filed? Same problem with your nails, if it is split even just a teensy smidgen, you can catch anything that the person your fingering has.

Oral is already covered above so I'll skip it. Condoms are pretty obvious as to what fluids your avoiding with it so I'll leave it alone as well.

The only truly safe method of having sex with anyone, is to be in a full body hazmat suit, condoms and dental dams so there is absolutely no fluids transfered or anything else. I really hope your giggling at this point because obviously that wouldn't work well.

Just use the KISS method (Keep It Simple Stupid), if you don't know him or her, make sure you have protection, virgin or not they can be carrying. Besides, not everybody is on the pill and it doesn't work 100% anyway.
