This week I had a date with a Dominant. I was honored to be his first "kinky" meeting. You know the story ... divorced, dated vanilla but had kinky fantasies ... and now has his toe in the BDSM pool. During the course of the evening we talked about profile pictures ... what would catch the attention of a submissive. I think I know what works for me, but curious as to what others would like to see. Here are my thoughts:

- Dressed casually but no tees. Button down shirt works best, as it shows some sophistication. No chest hair poking through, though.
- Mostly a face picture. Or at most, a picture of torso to face.
- Relaxed pose, but one that screams confidence. Happy works better than a steely gaze.
- No cock shots.
- Background should show some sort of class, e.g., a clean setting. If you took the picture in your house and it hasn't been tidied up in years, not a good idea. I'm also not a big fan of shots with your motorcycle or boat.

So ladies, what do you think? Would you rather see a bare chest? Leather? Bike?

And men, what do you want to see in a profile picture for a woman?

I love to see original pics of women with no smile but a serious confident stare. You know the one with the head held high in confidence.
If the picture was taken from a slighly lower angle then it is bang on.

As a submissive, I think you've got a pretty good description going already. :) To be honest though I wouldn't expect the face to be included. In my experience, most people keep this part of their life on the "down low" (as I do). I'd expect to see the rest later on once discussions have given us a chance to feel more comfortable with each other.

For me dress does make a difference. It's the first impression you get of a person. I have no interest in being with someone who seems to not have a desire to take care of themselves. Because then how would they treat me? On the other hand, a top hat and tails would be overdoing it. ;)

I hope this helps. :) But then, it's also only one opinion. My current avatar (which is not me but something I found online) seems to garner a lot more attention than I ever expected.

A face with a smile:)

The picture... No special preference, same as how I like men's profile pictures on a vanilla site -- clean, happy, good-looking (that is very subjective, of course; he should look like someone I'd want to fuck), etc. Since it's a kinky site, I'd be much more interested in what he writes -- what his particular kinks are. Even among doms there are many variations and some work for me and others don't.

You can't be serious.

my sarcasm meter is horribly disgustingly broken. please please please tell me you're joking.

with the horrid frequency of seeing genitalia as avatar pics, even here... please don't feed or vindicate that crass fantasy.

please.
oh please be joking.

Yep cock. Serious cock. Well, or silly cock too, maybe with a smiley face drawn on or a tiny hat, or something.

As a non-submissive/non-pyl, and in fact one who doesn't really "do" D/s (I'm a sadist), I would think that something along the lines of most of DGE's avatars would catch female pyls' attention.

This discussion pops up in myriad variations at FetLife all the time. At least in the groups that I frequent, the most common response is that a balance of images is most useful. Sure, show off your body a bit if you think your body is one of your better selling points, but show some restraint. Many, many of the women who post in my groups say that a profile that's mostly cock pics gets the member ignored in a hurry.

While FetLife is not, technically speaking, a dating site, members can post an unlimited number of profile pictures. Thus I regularly see profiles that include dozens of cute cat pictures (cats, not pussies), those graphics that I think most people think of as "Internet posters," and occasional photos of themselves. Taken as a whole, I think these assemblies of images can tell a good deal about the person who posted them. I've seen some profile picture sets where 80% or more of the images show the person naked and, often, giving head or having sex in some other way. Most of the time, I draw the conclusion that this person would be a completely useless dinner or coffee companion. Sure, I like sex as much as most, but come on, if you're going to be my partner you'd better be able to talk about something besides the last cock you sucked.

Again clarifying that I don't really "do" D/s, because my orientation is S/m (I'm the S ;) ), a picture (or drawing/cartoon/etc.) that reflects the person's personality and attitude toward life is much more important than boobs or pussy or even a nicely-welted ass. If there's not a personality behind/driving the body, I can just as easily wield my tools/toys on a pillow, and with about as much enjoyment - perhaps more, because the pillow would allow me to fine-tune my skills/techniques without any drama or hassles.

Aww! :eek::heart:

I hardly think an up-close picture of my thong-clad arse would go down well on facebook. xDDDD~

Does the OP not specifically mention kinky sites? The Facebook I know would hardly qualify. Catty, yes. Sappy and sentimental, yes. But kinky? I think not.

Yes, and -I- specifically mentioned ANY site. ;) This kind of picture is best for people looking for partners since facial beauty is important to many people. Face pictures rate pretty high as desirable, even on kinky sites. ;)

Not only that, but the face is what you see most of all, so being attracted to your partner's face (instead of just their ass) is also important. If my ass was the only thing that was "pretty enough" to be put in a picture, not a whole lot of people would want to date me. Having a nice ass just isn't enough!

But what if you look like the love child of Andy Rooney and Mick Jagger and your cock is a stunted wreck that lives only in shadows?

Replace S/m with B/l or O/p, and boobs/pussy with cock/...cock? And I predict that this would be me too.

Not that I've ever actually used a dating site or ever had the desire to, let alone hook up, or look at someone and go "I could have sex with you". BUT OTHER THAN THAT the sentiment is the same. Gimme a damn human being, not a caricature of what I want from one aspect of their entire self.
