How much revenge is TOO much? Part 1

I am currently writing multiple variations on the Cheating Wife/Revenge story. Part of these stories revolve around the husband 'regaining' his manhood/respect/payback. I'm interested in the community's take on 'How much revenge is TOO much?' In other words, at what point does the hero's revenge begin to make you think he's gone overboard?

Yes, I fully realize there are a TON of variables to those questions but I'd like to use these polls as a starting point. Below is a simple, generic cheating wife/revenge storyline.

Average Joe discovers his wife of 7 years is having affair with one of her co-workers. Affair has been going on for last two months/ 5 meetings. Yes, he has proof. Yes, they have two small children. If he confronts her she confesses and pleads with him not to leave her. She'll do anything. Claims she still loves him. Reasons for the affair will be the same old stuff. Joe loves/hates his wife now and has to decide what he will do.

There's three basic parts to Joe's response (3 polls).
How will he expose the affair and what form of payback will he chose? Exposure/Payback Poll

At what point do you, the reader, feel Joe's revenge has reached its limit and additional payback will cause you to lose sympathy for Joe? Yes, again I realize there are many variables.

Exposes affair to friends & family

For some reason, I've always found that to be kind of erotic, that a secret slut gets exposed and is horrified by it. Not necessarily in real life, but I in terms of erotic fantasies, which this story is.

While the cheating wife/revenge is of interest, I enjoy seeing how the characters react after the fact is exposed. Shame, guilt, anger, revenge, reconciliation? Whichever! May not agree with or like what the characters do, but as long as it fits that character, it's interesting.

With such polarized views in the Loving Wives category, I thought I'd toss out a scenario out here to see the community's reaction. working on several different storylines currently that fall on both ends of the scale.

Actual this isn't a real storyline of mine, just a generic one.

Story I recently submitted was a Vet who's wife cheated on him while he was overseas. He finds out and basically 'nukes' her life. Very cold, but in character with him.

Another one is kind of a twisting one. Wife thinks she's got proof that husband cheated. She appears to cuckold him while he's bound to a chair. Did he cheat? Did she cheat? Both claim they didn't! Does it even matter or is marriage toast?

I tend to believe, if this is a first offense, that reconciliation and make-up sex is best in the long-term. The other responses might be satisying to a greater or lesser extent in the short-term, but not to the overall health of the marriage. Or the overall health of the spouses either.

That doesn't mean that some of the other responses wouldn't make great stories, though.

I'm okay with all except "burning down the house" that's a little ridiculous

The last one is the right direction but is a bit too tame really. She needs to end up performing live group sex on stage (while hating every minute) to earn enough money to fund her drug addiction. Or maybe turning tricks in the men's restroom in a sleazy bar.

It just seems to me that any option that begins with the word "Exposes" not only humiliates the wife, but the husband as well. And everything else but option 2 are scorched earth options. But then again, I've never been married.
