Unforeseen Consequences: One result of Obamacare

I as I've heard it Obamacare isn't required for workers that work less than 30 hours per week. If this is true what do you think employers will start doing to employees hours.

- Since the vast majority of employers already provide health care for full time workers and not for part timers, little will change.

- Most businesses are small businesses with less than 50 employees and they will not be subject to any penalties.

- Small businesses that provide health coverage will not only be except from the penalty, they'll get a tax credit if they do provide it. So ones that were already providing it are going to come out way ahead in this thing.

- According to the January 2013 BLS report, the number of workers working part-time for economic reasons has shrunk -330,000 over the past 12 months.

- A business that cuts its employees hours from 40 to 30 will lose their employer-side tax deduction for providing health coverage. If they pay $8k for an employee's health care, that's an $8k tax deduction they're taking. If they want to go with all part timers then their tax burden skyrockets.

- Talented, bright, productive employees don't work for crappy employers that cap their hours at less than 30. Businesses know this and well, which business wants to be crappy?

I don't think we do except to say it needs to be repealed and a new effort made.

Republicans don't want to make an effort though. If they gave a rat's ass about health care they would have lifted a finger to do something about it during the Bush era. Thinking otherwise is foolish.

What's funny, is that Obamacare IS the republican effort... It's basically exactly what they were pushing for throughout the 90s, and now all of a sudden, their own idea is the worst thing EVAR!

Do you really want us to review your former predictions, Nostradumbass?
Hey!!! Islandman gave me that Nostradumbass title when I predicted alternative energy wasn't going to be the big jobs creation engine he said it was going to be. That title is MINE. MINE MINE MINE!

LOL

Pfft. The next original thought Islandman has will be his first.

I distinctly recall ...um, "borrowing" the phrase "Nostradumbass" from Phrodeau back in late 2008. It seemed so fitting a moniker to bestow upon the Vettebigot since he was lecturing us daily about the "permanent Republican majority".

Neither are the hundreds [1,200+] of politically-connected corporations and unions that were granted waivers.

These are now the Elite class that Democrats decry.
