The report you cited said that NY State has had a disappointing economy by some indicators for six months and the outlook is somewhat positive going forward. I hear you on this and you get the "attaboy" award for being a RW Litster using a solid source. Is there something else you wish to add?

Southwestern Pa. hospital to stop baby deliveries

WINDBER, Pa. (AP) — A southwestern Pennsylvania hospital will stop delivering babies after March 31 because its obstetricians are either leaving or refocusing their practices, and because hospital officials believe they can't afford it based on projected reimbursements under looming federal health care reforms.

The Windber Medical Center, about 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, is losing two obstetricians and two others are shifting their focus more to gynecology.

Hospital officials say the population of women of child-bearing age is dropping and that the number of births the hospital would be called upon to perform isn't enough for it to provide the service in the face of lower reimbursements under the federal Affordable Care Act.

The hospital delivered about 200 babies each year since restarting its obstetrics program in 2005.

Officials aren't sure how many jobs will be lost.

Remember when we told Merc and others that services by doctors would be cut due to diminishing reimbursements, and they all rushed in to tell us how fucked up we were, and how we didn't understand the economics of Obama Care?

Obamacare reduced reimbursement for Medicare Advantage a bit, bringing it into line with Medicare. How many women are having babies on Medicare?

Obamacare doesn't dictate reimbursement rates for private insurance. Sorry, you're misinformed again.

There are fewer women of child-bearing years, according to your article.
That means less demand.
The hospital is discontinuing a service that is no longer in high demand.
But you want to blame Obamacare.
Derp.

That hospital only delivers about 4 babies per week, that's their problem. When I worked on a tiny AF base in japan with 9-10k people on it the hospital averaged more than one delivery per day.

Speaking of Democrats and fiscal discipline, did you ever respond to Merc's post about California balancing their budget?

He did, he said we should wait until June and watch the Dems in the Senate fuck it up. Which doesn't sound unlikely.

Oh my, Arizona governor Jan Brewer (Vetty's favorite female to fap to) has announced in Newsmax magazine that she is caving in to "pragmatism" and will implement Obamacare after previously having sworn a solemn oath not to do so.

Circle the wagons, Vetty.

R.I.P. Retirement: 28% Of Americans Are Raiding Their 401k Plans

Via Michael Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

This trend has been in place since the financial crisis, but the fact that it is accelerating is extremely disconcerting. First off, this is not the kind of behavior that should be witnessed in an “economic recovery.” Second, we need to remember the huge percentage of Americans on food stamps and/or disability. As we have discussed previously, many of them also have jobs. So essentially, a wage and a check from the government is still not enough to survive. They still need to tap into a loan from their 401k plans.

From the Washington Post:

More than one in four American workers with 401(k) and other retirement savings accounts use them to pay current expenses, new data show. The withdrawals, cash-outs and loans drain nearly a quarter of the $293 billion that workers and employers deposit into the accounts each year, undermining already shaky retirement security for millions of Americans.

A report due out this week from the financial advisory firm HelloWallet found that more than one in four workers dip into retirement funds to pay their mortgages, credit card debt or other bills. Those in their 40s have been the most likely culprits — one-third are turning to such accounts for relief.

Fresh data from Vanguard, one of the nation’s largest 401(k) managers, show a 12 percent increase in the number of workers who took loans against their retirement accounts or withdrew money outright since 2008.

The most common way Americans tap their retirement funds is through loans, which must be repaid with interest. Those who withdraw money face hefty penalties. In most cases, they not only incur a 10 percent federal tax penalty but also pay income taxes. The costs are financially harmful to families even as *money-management firms reap massive fees for handling retirement accounts that ultimately are not used for retirement.

Hint, banksters win again.

Oil — California’s Ticket to Prosperity

Becky Yeh from OneNewsNow

One analyst hopes California’s governor will utilize the state’s natural resources to bring the struggling state into economic prosperity.off shore drilling

Though he has been a longtime maverick of environmental regulations, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) has lately signaled his support for oil companies and their push for more drilling. The state’s struggling economy is one of the reasons why Brown is trying to loosen environmental laws. He sparked environmental changes when he implemented the nation’s first energy-efficient standards in the 1970s, passed anti-smog laws, and halted offshore drilling.

Borelli, Tom (FreedomWorks)Now, Tom Borelli of FreedomWorks tells OneNewsNow environmentalists are concerned that the Democrat is showing more favor toward oil companies.

“The way out of our economic problems and the way to economic prosperity is to really develop our natural resources, especially the fossil fuel natural resources, which are coal, oil, and natural gas,” he explains. “The problem, of course, is that the environmental activists in the state of California are very powerful, and they will probably try to block development of natural resources and the economic boom that would follow that.”

Brown has signaled a desire to relax California’s Environmental Quality Act,

I saw that. Rick Scott in Florida is going to cave any day now as well.

Governor Scott is looking at a Federal fine of $300 million dollars per year for failing to offer health insurance to Florida government workers who work at least 30 hours per week.

He's had months to come up with a plan, but true to Republican nature, he prefers to stick his fingers in his ears and pretend it doesn't exist.
