protect those you love against being roofed

As of some time prior to this morning, I see that their $50,000 goal has been met (and exceeded, actually!). Good deal. I really don't understand why some bar supplies manufacturer didn't pick up on this and offer the inventor a crapton of money for the patent. They could have pretty much cornered the market, at least in North America (and probably Europe, too), for straws and cups.
 
The universities around here haven't had the glasses, but for years all the campus pubs have had bar coasters that changed colour. There was a big panic when this stuff first hit the scene, scary stuff indeed.

Because established industry players in any feild are more interested in making money than in innovation. They have something that is cheap to make and needs no advertising, the market's a done deal. Anything they ad will add time and therefore, reduce profits for a while, and altruism loses against profit.

Which is why kickstarter and indiegogo are so important.
