When can you be sure that you have acquired a personal story troll (or trolls)? One pretty sure sign is when just as your "how-to" essay on using the dictionary (using the dictionary, for god's sake) registers hot in the listing, it receives the same quick two-low-scores-in-succession punch that all of your other stories get.

Pm Laurel and ask her to do a personal sweep on your stories. She usually will do it within a day or so. It has made a big difference in overall scores for several people that I know of.

What do sweeps actually do? Eliminate votes coming from the same IP Address or IP range?

It's a secret. If I told you, then the trolls might overhear and learn how to get around the sweeps.

There are any number of ways the sweeps can work and only Manu knows just how he has them set up. Actually, I think there are three or four different types of sweeps, but what the hell do I know.

I would imagine they're all pretty much the same, as far as the criteria they're looking for. The different types would probably be how they're targeted. Contest sweeps, category sweeps, toplist sweeps, individual sweeps, etc.

Christ man, stop your whining. You’d think after 500 or 600 stories or whatever it is you’d have grown up a bit. How many more times are you going to post on this subject?

Do you really have “trolls” that consistently bomb your stories? My guess is no but what you probably have is a continuously expanding group of forum users who you’ve pissed off at one time or another. A group that has grown so large over the years that each of your stories probably does get a few “and fuck you too ace” votes (although from a constantly changing cast of characters).

Even when you’re on your best forum behavior you’re still insufferably rude to other posters for no apparent reason. And no I’m not talking about your long running, never ending feuds (ie lovergirl or miss odious or myself), I’m referring to your style of responding to anyone who wanders innocently into the LIT forum world. You are not a nice person and not surprisingly you earn enmity.

I suspect that if you learn to be a little nicer that over time the hostility towards you will diminish.

And then there’s the larger question of why do only a couple of votes sink your stories. Again the answer is simple – you, even after all these years and stories, have never been able to develop a large fan base. So your stories don’t generate enough votes! If you were writing stories that regularly generated 500 or 1000 votes you wouldn’t have to worry about a supposed “troll” or two.

Instead of whining about trolls every week why not try to write better stories! Forget quantity and go for quality. Get your stories edited. Ask for advice from other writers on how to be a better and more popular author.

And finally why would you even care if a How To story on using the dictionary is rated hot? And seeing this thread this a.m. I read the thing (fortunately it was short!). And no I didn’t vote! But if I had I wouldn’t have given it a 5. A 5 is defined as ”Loved it – One of the Best”. Which is a pretty high bar for anyone. Quite frankly if I had voted I would have been wavering between a 2 and a 3 (and probably would have ended up giving it a 3).

One, I don’t think it was written particularly well (and no I’m not going to get into a long critique of the work). And two, you just can’t keep your “I’m better than anyone else” attitude out of even an essay like this. This holier than thou attitude permeates all your work (the few stories of yours I’ve read and your forum posts). If you are ever going to become a more loved author it is a problem you’re going to have to learn to surmount.

You are almost Mitt Romneyesque in you inability to connect with the average reader. Lighten up and become moore lovable...

Sweep question

OK- because I don't know this stuff--- I entered the Holiday Contest and I have actually gotten a lot of nice feedback emails directly to me and they all at least said they voted the story high. Yet the vote totals seem low to me- so is this something I would want to have swept?

And if so, can someone give me "Laurel's" full name to send the request?

Thanks

I'd point out that I had Scouries on ignore, but loquere negated that by quoting him fully. Please try not to do that, loquere--or I'll have to put you back on ignore as well. The whole purpose of the ignore function is so one doesn't have to see the crap that he spews.

Thanks for the suggestion, TxRad, but I'm not really all that concerned about the ratings. I wouldn't mention it at all if lovecraft68 and Scouries (and now Cruel, apparently) didn't like to harp on my ratings on the forum.

Just pointing to the evidence. And the essay has gone hot again, so the jackasses need to get back to work (I guess you too, Cruel). ;)

Isn't it marvelous what jealousy will bring out in some writers?

What did she do?

She just asked if she should ask for sweeps?

I have no idea what she posted, if she was already on ignore. And she was. She went on ignore weeks ago for essentially the same out-of-the-blue personal attacking that Scouries posted above. She can post what she likes. I have no obligation to read personal attacks, though--or subsequent postings by such a person. This lets her know that she needn't bother doing it again if she just wants to jab me.

Crap? Jackasses? Jealousy? Do you always have to descend into these personal attacks?

And c’mon ace you live and die for the ratings. It kills you that you have so few H’s. Heck the few you get you lock in.

But that’s not a good approach. Instead of worrying about the ratings and trying to blame others (are you now really accusing the minnesotan of voting you down?) look at yourself. Your attitude. Your work.

Why not make a new year’s resolution to stop blaming others. And to rest responsibility for your reader’s responses to your stories where it belongs – on your own shoulders. To do better. To make 2013 a makeover year for the ace persona… to become loved…

And hey, it wouldn’t hurt to smile once in a while… and remember, a smirk is not a smile…

and please other posters do not agree with me! ever! it is the kiss of death. i don't want that responsibility on my shoulders...

For contest stories have no fear, sweeps will be run. They used to run them during the contest but now they wait until the end and don't waste time and resources before hand.

And Laurel is her full name. :D

For being a liar and for trying to fool everyone into thinking that he actually is someone on this site. NOT TO MENTION HIS FAKE CONTESTS, AWARDS, AND LISTS.

A public service message.

Glad you're amused :D

Glad you thought this was a "let's just personally attack other forum members for the hell of it because we are so perfect ourselves" free-for-all.

I posted the thread to make a point. I think I have made that point.

C'mon, seriously. You think that was an attack?
If I really wanted to attack you, it would look alot different. I would be wearing my mean face first of all.
But I dont want to. Why would I? What would it really. mean? Why would you care about anything I have to say anyway? You don't know me well enough to value my opinion that highly.
It always surprises me when people take things so seriously. How did you get so hyper sensitive? It must be tough to be a writer with such a thin skin.
Believe it or not, i bear you no ill will. I simply agreed that you come across as a little prickly and unfriendly. To be honest youre not really doing anything to change that perception. For all I know youre a very lovable guy. I have no problem assuming that you are. But you dont come across that way. Maybe there's alot lost in translation between intent and text.
Its just an observation. Take it or leave it or ignore it. Whatever works best for you. But I wouldnt recommend taking anything too seriously.

It would seem you were the supersensitive one here (given that you were the one who dropped on my head, not the other way around). :D I mean I know you must be so invested with your "I'm so clever" one liners on the AH to justify yourself as an AH regular--given that you haven't posted anything to the story file for nearly seven years or ever, that I know of, been helpful on a writer question, or ever shown an indication that you read any Literotica stories. I know how important your judgmental postings on the AH must be to you to validate yourself as a writer here.

If your vote total is low, a sweep might reduce it more. The percentage of votes out of reads is always tiny.

For the record, Laurel's name is Laurel.

Now, pilot can read Marie's post, assuming he doesn't have me on ignore, also. It's hard to imagine why he would have collected a personal troll.

You make me sad for you, Pilot.
Im very sorry if I hurt your feelings.

Now, pilot can read Marie's post,

Now I don't have to, because it apparently has been effectively answered. I don't have to answer all of the questions even if I have an idea what the answer is.

assuming he doesn't have me on ignore, also.

Of course not, since you apply your "I am better than the rest of you" from-the-sidelines judgmentalism fairly evenly. :D

It's hard to imagine why he would have collected a personal troll.

Only the one, ya think? The point being that those who are obsessed with using ratings against me on the forum (which only sleazebags would do to begin with) like to discount that. Evidencing it was the sole point of this thread. And obviously the point wasn't appreciated by at least one of those who are so insecure about my writing that they have to compare themselves to it and denigrate it in public.
