What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Well, that's sort of a trick question, and you haven't exactly stated your position, merely your opposition to mine. I will make a few assumptions here, and if I'm incorrect, I sincerely apologize, and I don't say that facetiously.

What I am gathering is your solution; continuing on the path that we're on, will lead to the sub-Saharan desert growing by leaps and bounds.

I don't think that advocating a corporate "benefactor" model will do much to promote humanitarian welfare in either the short term, or the long term.

Let me ask you this; how much will corporations have to spend to find a replacement planet? Just give an educated guess.

The sentence in enlarged font is incorrect. I think a change is required, but where you require a fundamental shift in humanity to achieve your goals - a shift that has never happened on a global scale in our history - my change is focused centrally on using economic drivers to change our behaviour. In other words, you want people to do the right thing all the time. I want to incent people to do the right thing because that's where the money is. It speaks to our nature instead of a requiring forced re-write in order to preserve humanity.

Many fundamental shifts in humanity have happened to achieve goals, although admittedly mainly for the worse.

You are correct, I am a dreamer, and I make no apologies for it. I believe that humanity can achieve a lot more than it is right now, and I also believe that people don't want to ruin the planet. However corporations (even though they are now deemed "people") don't have that same mindset/"opinion", since as many on here will attest to, their sole motivating factor is making a profit for their shareholders.

Again, I think the fallacy in your argument is that you believe that nature is a part of the economy, when in fact, it's very much the other way around.

Let's say the temperature of the planet raises by 20 degrees over the next 200 years, for the sake of argument... what economic incentives will matter then?

In that situation, how much money will it take for us to terraform a new planet and take humanity there?

Will the corporations be leading the charge? After all, it's their mess.

Perhaps you have the luxury of being a dreamer. I'd rather focus my remaining days on the generational problems being faced now by the human race.

"my remaining days"?

* swoon *

My hero!

Hopefully, the Nobel Committee is aware of your crusade...

...what a friggin' playgrounder.

Please, you are a socialist cliche. You know that I'm spot on, hence, your annoyance as you know what I'm saying is true and that is resonating deep inside you striking up pain

You think I’m annoyed, in pain?

Hardly, like I said earlier……………

If you were hoping for anything approaching conversation with Jen forget it. Just poke it with a stick every now and then and watch it go ape shit and that’s it.
Woof!

If you could see the truth and wake up, there might be hope for you! But for now, I'm done with you. Grow up

Grow up?

Go back and read the shit you've been posting on this thread alone, or better yet go look at Rory’s thread, contemplate, be appropriately embarrassed and ashamed, and then fuck off for a while and join a remedial education class.

You have writing and reasoning abilities of an 11 year old.

A retarded 11 year old.

A retarded 11 year old with lead poisoning.

A retarded 11 year old with lead poisoning who dropped out of school after kindergarten.

Woof!

hopefully people will wake up that these are horriable times. worse than when Jimmie Carter was in office and we all know what a failure he was.

Then we had a leader come into office. The foundation for a technology boom was created.

Billie Clinton was able to ride the dot com bubble

Bush II inherited the failed policies of Clinton and the start of our "War" on terrorism. If Clinton didn't have this fantasy that every American has a right to owning a home, well things might have been different. However, there were cracks in the economy, mostly the realization that "Dot Com" companies were not real and in order to survive they needed revenue.

Then the collapse of the Banking and Insurance system. Part of this was the fault of Clinton but majority was Bush's fault.

the rise of Union thugs and Government regime, rose from the ashes of 2008. Miss-informed and educated kids graduated from College and wanted more, wanted better, wanted winds of change and so this group and others voted for Obama.

Winds of Change? I think not. Winds of change was nothing more than a fart.

Now we have obama. WTF. This asshat does nothing, but at least he has time to work on his golf game.

hopefully another 4 years of failed obama policies people will wake up that government is NEVER the solution Government is the problem.

However, change will be hard as career Congress people will never want to fix the boat as this will create conflict and these asshats love their job of doing mostly nothing and milking/raping the tax payer.

so obama supporters, keep on being sheep and let "him" lead you to the slaughter house!

No, I think economics are a part of nature. Greed is part of nature.

You think that humanity is part of nature, but it isn't. This point is made by the way in which we twist nature to suit our needs. There is the idea of a greater good - ostensibly one to save the planet for future generations - but our humanity cares not a whit. Nature will give up its resources to us regardless of whether the ramifications to humans. You only need to look as far as frakking to see it at work.

Twisting something doesn't make you exempt from it.

It's all about the methods in which you believe in your stewardship.

If you had a dog, would you whip it into submission, or would you train it through positive methods?

If you chose the former, you may find that dog turning on you at an inopportune time.

Stewardship isn't part of nature. The lion doesn't care if there are only a handful of wildebeest left on the planet. He's driven to eat.

In the same way, we benefit from having a well-behaved dog. Otherwise it would be food. Once again, economic benefits at work, regardless of the pretty words it's wrapped up in.

When do you start taking responsibility for your own life instead of blaming Obama?

Are you one of those people who has spent their lives blaming their parents for everything wrong in their lives too?

Please, I'm the only one taking any responsibility for anything. obama and his kind are blaming everyone from Bush, to Santa Clause, to .... for the obama failures. I'm not the one that says we need more "entitlements"

we need less obama and a leader for president unless you consider golf a necessary skill for a CEO

What have you taken responsibility for lately?

All I see is you blaming Obama for everything you don't like.

Maybe you think you're "entitled" to that excuse? Why? Why not grow up and move on already?

I don't understand the fundamentals of how you believe that humanity and nature are separate.

And using your lion comparison, it looks like you're taking a fatalist viewpoint on humanity.

It doesn't sound at all like economic incentives "work" in that case.

In the same way, we benefit from having a well-behaved dog.

Whatever are you going to do about the no-so-well behaved dogs among us?

Put your socialist pipe down...

...and tell me how you will bring me to heel.

Not just more utopian synapse stroking...

...but actually what you're going to do when I don't roll over and play dead.

Well pathetic as it is (nearly as bad as the stories) at least you gave it a shot.

So now all can see why you normally stick to randomly shouting out "my chicken’s burnt......I blame Obama wah wah etc"

Humanity supercedes nature. Blame that on our brain. Nature has created our brain, but holds very little sway over it today.

Not at all fatalistic, but bringing this discussion full circle, it's just based on reality. Lions have more prey than just wildebeest.

On a nature program some years ago, they said that lions seem to 'calculate' the energy expenditure of bringing down large prey versus smaller prey given variables such as the size of the hunting party and how effectively the prey can use its herd as a defense. Once again, the economics of nature.

We could go 'round and 'round again, but I'd rather not. Appreciate the conversation nonetheless.

Bring you to heel?

That's the easiest solution of all....one day, you're going to die. It's guaranteed, and the very reason why I would never have to lift a finger over you.

And you're going to die, too...

...so much for your plan, huh?

It's always telling reading a poster speak of freedom and democracy...

...and then in the very next breath pontificate on what must be done to bring humanity to heel, since - you know - they can't do it themselves, at least not to the point you dictate they should.

You're nothing but a socialist piece of sh!t, playgrounder...

BTW:

You wanted "finger"...

...not "figure".

Have you always been this funny?
