Thank you! My work day was as stressful as I thought it would be.

However....I cam home to my daughter waving a letter in front of my face. She was notified that she was granted a $10,000 merit scholarship!! WooHoo! i am so proud of her. She has worked so hard to maintain her grades.

Sorry to hear about the work situation but congrats to your daughter! That is fantastic! :rose:

Oh, I can believe it. I felt hungover today after it was over. I got no work done and for me to go through a day and get no work done???

Yeah, you're right.

And I love your point about the internet as an equalizer. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that internet debates have helped me sharpen my skills and confidence in RL debates. I can hold my own much more confidently now against the loud-talking emotional males. Not at Rachel Maddow level yet, (she's amazing), but definitely leaps above where I used to be.
Same here, honestly.

And us being able to develop the necessary sound-bite answers that small soundbite minds communicate in, and share them with each other has helped a lot too.

That's weird parsing, but you know what I mean?

So sorry that it was a Monday at work, but that is amazing! What a relief... congratulations to your daughter for all her hard work, and to you too!! This kind of success never happens without parental support and assistance.

I know exactly what you mean. Practice and observation have shown me what works and what doesn't in online forums. And this transfers directly to RL.

But the best part is that I was able to refine these skills in an environment where I never had to worry about the loud-talking emotional males out-voluming me. Perhaps the internet will be the place where women finally develop their voices to full potential?

I think it has become that-- especially this year. I watched women change their minds, right before my eyes, on facebook. I watched (some few) men type desperate polemics, which could be ignored, by women, in favor of women-to-woman discussion... Crazy shit I'm telling you!

That's great!
I hope the work situation changes for the better for you and your husband too.

I'm in the wrong fucking business. Seriously.

To be fair, it takes time for such large pieces of wood to dry enough to be stable, so storage costs are a factor. So is the expertise to cut and prep large blocks of material. Still, $350 does seem a tad rich for a stump.

I looked a little deeper into their site and just about all of the furniture was both ugly and over-priced. One closeup of an apron-leg corner seemed to show a gray material between the leg and the table top; it looked like spackle, for crying out loud, and the table was priced at $1850 or thereabouts.

At a moment like this, I can't help but wonder....What would Jimmy Buffett do?

Thank you!! I am hopeful that I won't be laid off entirely. Maybe get my hours cut a bit, but not so much where I lose benefits.

My daughter is a great kid. I have never had to tell her to do her homework. SHe always gets it done before it's due. On the other hand...she hasn't cleaned her room in ages. But a clean perfectly neat room doesn't earn scholarships. It's a fair trade off.

My mother never figured this out. Nor to this day!

Totally weird to have the conversation I had today with the person I had it with...hee!

Oh, I've seen eshops like this one.

They are using thirdworld materials and labor and implying that the "handcraft" means a local middleclass guy in a local workshop.

As you say it takes time to cure the wood before working it-- and these types of furniture makers don't always cure the wood correctly so that you watch your mango wood cupboard twist itself apart. They are more into feedin their families RIGHT NOW, after all, than in providing some wealthy-by their standards-- American with fancy shit that you can't ven eat.

Damn it my MIL shows up with a huge ham she got "on sale" I have no room in the fridge. I spent 20 min rearranging everything listening to her snipe about how greatful I should be.

Kiss my ass MIL!

"Brothers", you have but one chance to get on my empathetic side tomorrow ~ DON'T screw it p, please!

I volentered to work because my family is so ungreatful I refuse to spend time and money on feeding them only to be told I didn't do enough when they couldn't be bothered to bring a pack of kool-aid or a loaf of bread.

I'm still resentful that we're even open past 2pm, let alone not closing at all and thinking about doing it Christmas eve/day as well.

I want a nice sit down job where I'm off weekends and holidays and don't have to worry so much about the fact that I can't feel my foot enough to walk.
