I would like to submit a story written for someone on their birthday. I need her to be able to log on on her birthday and read it. Is there a delay from the time of submittable until its publicly visible? And if so, how many days prior should I submit it?

Thanks in advance,

David

Normally it takes three days but and there usually is a big old butt...

If you are a new author it might take a day or so longer and with the Winter Holiday contest starting today it might take a couple more days.

If at all possible, get it in early and put a note in the note field explaining why and on what day you would need it posted. Laurel usual works well to meet such needs if she has the time and space.

Its not precise. Usually its 3 days, but there is a contest running so it will be longer. Also there is a longer wait sometimes for new authors.

What I would do is forget about having it go up on the day of her birthday and give yourself at least 7 days. That way it goes up and you can send her the link for her birthday.

There is a delay between submission and publication but it varies. if you want someone to read your story at a certain day why don't you e-mail it to her or even better; send it by mail?

You could probably arrange for a story to be posted on a particular day--at least three days in advance--by PMing Laurel and asking her if this can be done.

Just a word of warning.

Laurel is the only person who looks at the stories. We're at the start of a contest which means a heavier flow of stories than usual.

Do as you wish, but you may not want to count on her seeing your note and doing as you ask. You also don't know if your story could be rejected for some reason.

If you want it for her birthday, I would just get it up there plenty early rather than gamble on the day of. It will be better already being there than you missing the boat.

Im curious as to what is actually shown "dated" when you submit a story? Isnt it just the submit date on your authors profile?

Personally Im with the just get it up early so it'll be there crowd but I did wonder if for some odd reason in the future I need a specific date, what and where exactly is dated?

Not sure what you mean by "dated." The date that's put in the "date" block for stories on your submission page is the date the story posted (or will post). It's not filled in until there is a posting date for it. Occasionally it will be filled in in advance of the actual posting. This usually seems to be a result of Laurel working ahead and getting posting set up on a day she's not going to work on submissions.

I don't see anywhere where a submission date is posted.

Youre right. I carried submit over to the next sentence when I wanted "posted."

My curiosity still has me wondering, is this the ONLY place a story's post date would be shown? I guess I dont see that as much off a payoff for the effort but I suppose it could be important.

Perhaps Ill write a Mayan apocalypse tale for Dec 21. Though if its true I imagine Larel will be unable to post it as she'll have hands full with floods, plague, etc etc etc.

If a super storm like Sandy can only flash a couple of servers off and on and put a glitch in a couple of places, floods and plagues won't even leave a mark. :D
