well, I posted this on my blog and decided I should post it here too....

We all know about how middle class America has issues with Wall Street, and if you think about it, about how easy it would be for one of the key plays to get insider info and capitalize off it....its a tight rope...but what if he/she did and was able to move ten million dollars to an off shore account....

the question is, would you be willing to risk, two years in jail for $10,000,000.00

this idea has been stuck in my mind....so many ways to go with it....insider trading...inter office sex

thoughts?

It obviously leaves a lot of space open for blackmail.

Or, the wife of the "ethical" trader is greedy, always trying to push her husband to do more, make more, spend more on her. She starts hanging out with one of the new younger traders, seducing him into a lifestyle beyond his means, nearly bankrupting him as he spends freely on fulfilling her whims and desires, eventually being pushed into an insider trading deal by her and his debt...

A very attractive young woman trader has all the guys in the office chasing her, single or married, young or old, they all want to get into her skirt. But she doesn't succumb to any of their attempts. One trader lures her into a trading trap, actually feeding her insider information, without her knowing it. Now she is at his mercy...

$10 million vs a possible 2 years in a Federal club med. Hell yes assuming I get to keep the money. $5 million/year is a pretty nice income, especially tax free.

as part of a caper, a couple of disappointed investors want to get their money back, she seduces the crooked financier while he steals the account data for the secret offshore bank accounts...

guess the question is, with $10 million would you be willing to not live in America?

A lot of the answer depends on which country's have what kind of extradition treaties and for what crimes. There at lots of places that have large ex pat. groups and the countries themselves welcome U.S. dollars.

Belize, I hear, is a very nice place to live.

In Nevada there was a fraud case that resulted in about $30 million going offshore, the principals were held in contempt in prison for not returning the money for several years, by the time they paid back the money they had just as much and I believe went to get it in the tropics.

I think you have a lot of real life to inspire quite the story. I have toyed with a similar sub-plot inspired by the insider trading / behind-closed doors dealing of Noble House by Clavell.
