Oh, I know. Get used to it. That's why my favorite companions can be dog, who never complains, and Shale, who is just excellent comedy relief. "Oh, somebody, please, just kill somebody." That's usually the first thing I do once I'm free in the world - go get Shale!

I think for me there's just no...humor in the vampire world in general. Buffy was an exception. Mostly it's eternal brooding over having super powers. Awww...poor babies.

I agree with that, Buffy made the whole idea fun.

Angel made it fun and more dramatic... aimed at a more mature audience, maybe.

I don't know why Joss Whedon absolutely HAS to emotionally castrate his guys. I suspect personal issues.

Yes, I think Joss idolizes women and demonizes men and that makes me sad. Men are awesome.

I don't hate Alastair, he just has his place and he doesn't stay in it.

He's so tied to the plot that he shows up everywhere, interrupting and telling stories and delivering exposition. If you play a character that dislikes him, he's an intrusive, selfish asshole who asks every moment for your opinion and then when it's important, doesn't care what it is.

I remember wanting to play a game without so much Alastair and I was very surprised to see that even if I didn't have him in party, he'd barge in and give his opinion. Going to Redcliff? He has a story to tell. Going back to Redcliff? He has an opinion about the Landsmeet, and every opinion is wishy washy and you can't actually tell what's going to happen until you make the choices and then he comes down like a load of selfish bricks.

If you're in the mood for Alastair, there's nobody better as a companion, IF you agree with everything he says and make the decisions he wants. You think he's cool and funny and then BAM...sensitive tizzy.

Some of my characters absolutely adore him and want to spend every minute holding his hand and getting him what he wants. Some of my other characters think he's annoying and narcissistic and doesn't understand the expediency of my actions and I want to leave him at camp too...but the game won't let me.

That wasn't his writing.

The writers saved Spike and Angel, and in the last season of Angel, those two were priceless.

Morning! They were both great series. I've watched and rewatched an embarrassing number of times.

Trivia: Did you know that the dancer on the Host's home planet was actually performed by Joss Whedon in makeup? Numfar! Do the Dance of Joy!

I really do love his character creation. Which is why I'm so sad when he spatters them with acid. He spatters women with acid, but then heals them and makes them better than they were before.

Not so with the guys. You get acid and broken bones and chips in the head...

Reverence for women and the power they hold over a man seems to be the theme I pick up on. He doesn't wanna hit a girl.

Saffron was awesome though. A nice, honest, bad girl that had no redeeming value whatsoever. And Mal didn't fall for her twice. Shiny!

The last few seasons of Angel were really excellent, once you got over the Jasmine story arc, which was just brutal cruelty to all.

Despite any of the drama and melodrama flaws or plotting holes, I think it had moments of strategic brilliance, love, joy, beauty and humor.

I can pick on Joss for having a tendency to torture males, but it's not because he hates himself or is afraid of women so much as he just really...likes them and he'd rather take the hit by proxy.

I remember him saying something like he didn't want to kill Tara, but he couldn't stand the idea of not being able to kill Tara. That says a lot right there of him as a person in conflict with him being a writer. I think he falls in love with some of his female characters, and although he admires his male characters, it's not...LOVE. His writing is often exploration of his own personal limits and he's doing it to learn something himself, so I'm not necessarily the intended audience. He's just doing his thing.

When he shot what he thought was his dad...also...I get that. It was because of a threat to someone he loved and chose to protect. Oh wow, and that was Roy Dotrice. Made a connection. Time to watch again.
