I kinda like sunlight and I might feel a bit guilty if I ate my family. Also Spike aside there wasn't a lot of vampire humor, just Buffy being funny and quippy. Angel very rarely got over his brooding to the point where it was an in joke on the show by season two.

It sure as hell wouldn't hurt to have another slayer like show though. Something where you understand why these people go on. I love Supernatural but Sam and Dean. . . they rank up there with Jack Bauer at this point where I really don't get why they don't just fly down to Kokomo, get their fast and then take it slow and if the world ends FUCK IT. I don't care. I saved it like twelve times and what thanks do I get? Everybody I know is dead except this one twat I don't like and want very much to kill but somehow he keeps being not only not dead but in better standing than he was the last time we met.

I don't know why Joss Whedon absolutely HAS to emotionally castrate his guys. I suspect personal issues.

Supernatural does have a huge body count. I own the seasons and I rewatch them, but about where Jo dies I start to lose heart. They killed Jo AND Ash AND Castiel AND Bobby? Come on, people. Resurrect more of them nicely like you do with the boys.

I could do with another fun-scary series or two.

This sucks. I am failing at being evil because I keep lying about what I'm doing and people fall for my bullshit. Stop liking me! Dammit, be smarter and hate me more for lying to you! You SAW what I did!

Stupid Bioware.

Giles isn't half bad and Wesley is incredible. Quite possibly the most complete character arc I've ever seen period. I'd be more interested in finding out why Joss insists on shortening all names the wrong way. You have Xander, not Alex, Topher not Chris, Fred instead of Winnie and a few others. (Though I do suspect Joss wishes he was a super powered girl)

Supernatural just kills everybody. Dad, Joe, Ash, Castiel, Bobby, Rufus (not that we really liked him), Bella (I liked her), Ruby (I was pissed when she turned out to be evil) that computer hacker who's name escapes me. Those boys really are cursed and knowing them will get you very dead. Except goddamned Meg who apparently knows where the secret exit from Hell is cus she escapes so often that the boys recognize her no matter what body she's in and hell we damn near do as well.

I'm also so happy that this season they skipped most of the angst between the brothers. It was, hey you're not dead anymore. Wanna talk about it? Not really? Fine lets go we aren't doing this whole routine again. It sucks beyond measure to be them. (And I'd still rather be them than Jack Bauer. I would have personally overthrown every major government in the world by the end of season 6 if I was in his shoes)

But yeah something kinda light and fluffy.

Yes, I think Joss idolizes women and demonizes men and that makes me sad. Men are awesome.

Bella isn't just a good character but a great actress. Took me a while to figure out that she was also on Walking Dead. It's nice to be surprised. I wasn't tipped off by her voice but by "Wait a minute...I've seen those lips before..."

Yes, I do get tired of the "Oh, poor me, I know everything that's going on and could have everything I want, but all I have is this car..."

Joss Whedon does characters. Buffy the film was crap, the series was some of the best TV ever. Because of character dev. Angel was meh, but Firefly was fucking excellent not because of whizzbang sfx, but because you cared about the characters. If I ever meet the fucker that cancelled it, there will be violence.

I will only say this once

VAMPIRES DON'T FUCKING SPARKLE!

No...just no.

Also there was supposed to be a mini series based off buffy...a season based around each major character. Problem was everyone had to agree to do it... Dave said no he wanted to go into movies. Where is he now?

My point exactly

Just as an aside, I always thought Marsters was a brit until I saw him on a chat show. He's the only yank actor apart from Depp that I believed. And Marsters is better than Depp at it.

Oh, I still love Buffy the film in a campy way, as I think it was intended. Joss has a bit about how Sutherland would never, ever say the lines written for him and fucked up the story. I believe it.

Angel was really good for a few things: The Host, Fred and Darla.

Firefly was excellent and Joss didn't have enough time to fuck up Mal. He was getting around to it though, he was going to let Inara screw him over because she was "Sooooo awesome" and he could give up his will to her. When will a Joss guy not lose everything he has to a hot chick...I give it three more episodes before Mal was crying and lost and doing stupid things for her while she got more unreachable.

They gave him back his manhood partially for the movie because I think Nathan Fillion is impossible to fuck up. It's a karma thing. I hold him responsible, not Joss.

Who said anything about sparkling vampires? I'm just ignoring them until they go away.

Bullshit. Spike, Angel (though I hated him), Mal.

Spike=evil, Angel=whiner, Mal=Han Sol. . .I mean criminal. Also he had his slayer on board and c'mon we all know who's the more virtous person between the pirate and the whore.

Joss kinda gives us the short end of the stick a fair amount and he admits he's all girl power. And our end of the stick isn't so short that we can complain considering that in most shows women are lucky to even get an end of the stick. Usually the short end goes to the minority guy.

Bullshit. Spike, Angel (though I hated him), Mal.

And those are the guys... Spike got the chip and then the soul, making him zero fun. Angel got the soul, making him zero fun. Riley ends up going for cheap vamp sex in back alleys. Oz Spidermans the crap out of Willow. Gunn betrays Fred. In Dollhouse whoever the fuck the main guy was was just the useless main guy and I don't care, but he sucked. Mal was great but he didn't have enough time to mess him up.

The only functioning relationship was the lesbians.

Never once does a guy walk away from a destructive chick, he falls straight into her. Women are the ones that have to say "No...no, I can't...you're not good for me..." /sex

He's so damned talented, and fun to watch. Turned everything into gold. He narrates some books on Audible also, and I stalk him.

Whoa. Spike was still good fun for a while with the chip, it's not until he really becomes no fun, and he's a blast on Angel. Apparently being obnoxious really is that entertaining. Also Cavemen would win so don't start.

I also call BS on Gunn betrays Fred. Gunn made the second best call and probably the best under the circumstances. Unless he was gonna beat his girlfriend saving the prof wasn't actually an option open to him. Calling that a bad move is kinda like following the insane troll logic that lead to Wes stabbing Gunn over Illyria. (Or really any of their logic against Wolfram and Hart in season 5, I'm almost convinced that Wolfram and Hart aren't evil and simply don't know what evil is)

Riley ultimately does walk away from Buffy for the record. Also it's not fair to say the only working relation is the lesbians. Xander Cordi likely would have lasted at least one more season had she not been shipped to Angel, Angel and Buffy's relationship is more or less functional and Xander Anya was doing as well as could be expected. Also dying kinda helps with the not breaking up thing.

Oh, Spike was fun for the viewer, but got his ass kicked by Buffy literally, figuratively and emotionally.

He builds good men and then he tears them down. He doesn't do the same to female characters as much. It's just frustrating to me. I like to see strong male characters and they always START that way and then they go...straight downhill...from there...with women as the cause.

It helps that the show is usually about the woman. And I don't count the guy in Dollhouse as being torn down, he just turned out to be evil as fuck. And I agree that Joss is rough on the guys but when he's rough on the girls half the time he comes across as a bully. Willow gets way more punishment than she deserved under and over a longer period of time.

Yeah, I just consider it a particular Whedonism. The guys in Supernatural can fall in love and still make a right or wrong choice and not lose the center of their personality. Love is an aspect of their life, not the thing that mutilates them - with a few exceptions, of course, they've been mutilated a lot, literally and figuratively.

It's not a one for one case in Joss's case, and I really adore his work. I just think he has some issues to work out as far as his options for characters go.

Starting conditions for his male characters are often the best you're going to see them, and it's downhill from there.

I'm not accusing him of sexism, just inhibition. He's a vicious asshole at times and I think he takes it out on the guys and can't take it out on the girls quite as much.

Evil Willow was the best thing ever. He gave her ALL the best lines of the season.

She had the best lines but she makes no sense when you stop and start dissecting her and her motivations. If she was trying to commit suicide by slayer she was doing a bad job, if she wasn't trying to commit suicide by slayer she was doing a bad job. Not to mention all the lead up to that in season six and all the fall out in season 7.

Yeah starting conditions for guys tend to be about as good as it gets for Joss's guys. Mal being the rare exception where if not up he at least ended more or less where he started though that might just be due to him not having enough time to fall.

No, the motivation was grief, not suicide. Vengeance at all costs. Suicide was incidental.

Joss even tells us that exactly:

SPIKE: You ... so you're saying that a ... powerful and mightily pissed-off witch was planning on going and spilling herself a few pints of god-blood until you ... what?... explained?
BUFFY: You think she ... ? No! I told Willow it would be like suicide.
SPIKE: I'd do it. Right person ... person I loved. I'd do it

He speaks through Spike a lot.

Anyway, some of this isn't Joss but Marti Noxon, who created Spike and had a bit more control over him, I believe, and several seasons to mess with him.

I still can't forgive that bitch for messing up Fright Night. *sigh*

And now she has a deal to co-write something with M. Night Shyamalan for SyFy. Can't decide whether to burn my TV or watch in that train wreck rubbernecking way, afraid I'm going to like it.

Except then she makes a lot of moves that even for a Buffy villain aren't tactically sound. Why teleport Buffy to the Magic Shop instead of leaving her at Wrath's? Why not throw that fireball at the start of the fight and stall Buffy with your fun little fight while the nerds get all blowed up? I mean she's making the kinds of mistakes that Glory would be sitting around laughing about what retard would have done that?!

Hell semi-dark Willow vs Glory is an excellent example of just how much she was holding back against Buffy. No snakes? No books flying off the shelves? She's just killing time with Buffy for no immediately obvious reason.

While we're at it , good job Giles! The next time I see an angsty teen who's about to murder two at best morally ambigious people I'm gonna give her the nuclear football and make sure she understands that there are millions of people suffering far worse injustices than they are right this moment. I keep wanting the comic to explain that there was an ancient prophesy about a how a common man would stop the super witch cus. . .yeah. As plans go that was really really dumb.

After Avatar Night falls strictly in my never again category. He gets no more free passes. I let him out of jail free after the Village. I let him make bail after The Woman in the Water but he raped Aang and that shit just don't fly.

Well...grief is not a sound state of mind. I can't apologize for the plot holes other than that.

I love Giles. And he should have had more opportunities to sing...what an amazing voice.

The only unforgivable was kissing Anya, at which point I threw things, but I can't get that out of my head now.
