A few days ago the Chinese, S. Korean, and Indonesian Badminton teams were expelled from the Olympics for not playing to their best ability. I concur with the committees decision on that matter.
And just two days later the press was all over the US Basketball coach for running up the score on Nigeria. In this case the coach pulled players, stopped 'fast break' plays, and took several measures to restrain the team. Even so it was a lop-sided match up.
This is political correctness at its worst on the part of the press. First they're all over the Asian teams that tried to blow their matches as a part of an overall strategy vs. their treatment of the US team for winning "too big."
Shouldn't the US Basketball team be expelled from the Olympics for not playing at their highest level? Or perhaps the Asian teams be re-instated for trying too hard not to humiliate their opponents?
The attempt on the part of the press to create controversy where there is none is superficial and farcical. It calls into question their intelligence and judgement, and indeed their overall ability to do their job.
What those prima-donnas of journalistic integrity deserve is a team picture of the entire cadre' giving them the middle finger salute. Of course that will never happen, but it would be apropos.
