Do you wax yourself?

Okay, I am a hairy dude... really hairy. I was ***thinking*** about getting myself waxed. However, I don't want to do it professionally because it's really expensive.

So does anybody just wax themselves? How hard is it to do? I'm especially concerned about the scrotum area.

What do you guys suggest? I'm not really sure I'm going to actually do this. It would be really weird to see a hair-free me. Maybe it would be best for me to stay hairy, but I was just curious.

Also, if you could point me to any products, that would be great.

Thanks

Here is a quote from me from a previous thread about chest waxing (sorry if the formatting sucks):

I have chest hair because I'm not a little girly man. But that's neither here nor there. I've done what you are asking about. I have a suggestion before you try waxing though. Take your dick and slam it in a car door. Then stir up an ant hill with it. That's got to be slightly less painful. Here is my story.

I've had a hairy chest since I was like 15. Well I thought I would be cool and wax my chest. Actually, I lost a bet. I was 16 at the time and I had to wax my chest because of this bet. Now, I didn't trim it first. Perhaps that would have helped. But I got the wax. Heated that stuff up. Put it on my chest. Put that strip on there and ripped. I thought I was going to pass out. It was absolutely horrifying. I was bleeding like crazy. Every pore was bleeding. (again, this could be better if I had trimmed it first) The pain was ridiculous.

Was I smart in choosing an inconspicuous spot where I could try it out first? Nope. I picked the five inch strip right in the middle of my chest. So, I could leave it and look like an r-tard. Or I could be a man and finish the job. I should have just wussed out and stopped. Because it did not get easier. I had to put a wash cloth in my mouth and get psyched up while doing this. I finished it finally. I thought it looked stupid when I was done. I looked like a little boy. With a bloody chest. It was smooth though.

Like a dumbass I went to the beach the next day. Don't do that. It will burn like the urine of the cast of Jersey Shore. It was a good week before it didn't feel like My chest was raped by a cheese grater. Oh, and it sure as hell came back thicker.

I suggest this:

1. Don't do it.
2. If you have to do it, don't do the stupid things I did. Learn from 16 year old Pmann.
3. Get someone else to do it. It's tough to do yourself.
4. Try it in an inconspicuous area first. Somewhere that if you puss out like I wanted to, you could do so with minimal effect.
5. See if you can get a hold of a bottle of novacaine or something to numb it.

Now ladies, don't come in here with your Brazilian waxing stories. I might be a wuss. I don't really care. I'm giving this man some honest feedback about what it's going to feel like. You girls give birth and all that. We don't. We have lower threshold for pain.

I hope this helps.

I am, obviously, not a dude. Nor was I hairy. However, I have some many years of experience in getting waxed, both by going to a professional and self-waxing, before I bit the bullet and lasered (after 10 years, I thought it was time:D)

But yes, waxing yourself, particularly the nether regions can be tricky. You have to stretch the skin, keep the skin taut, apply the wax and strip, and still keeping the skin taut, rip the strip parallel to the skin quickly.

It's very very very very VERY inadvisable to wax yourself for the first time. I don't think I've stressed how inadvisable it is. It's not all that expensive, it lasts for weeks, and it's worth every single penny. If you end up NOT liking the results, you lost 60 bucks, nothing more. If you do it on your own, you could not only lose the 15-20 bucks for the kit, but the likelihood of something going drastically wrong jumps exponentially.

You say you don't want to go to a professional? I say for the first three-four times, go to a professional. Why? She (and it's almost always a she) will do it quickly, she has the necessary hands free, but more importantly she has training. This makes all the world of difference. You wouldn't file complicated taxes for your business without going to someone and asking them to help you navigate the system if you have never filed taxes before, would you? No, I thought not. This is the same thing. A professional aesthetician will competently and quickly wax you, without any problems, and you can observe her techniques and then eventually emulate them.

Furthermore, if you wax yourself, the pain will be that much higher. In the hands of a professional, the pain is minimalised. After several sessions, your skin adapts and it becomes less and less painful, so then you can start to wax your own self.

If you feel embarrassed to get waxed professionally, don't. These ladies has seen it all, and their primary objective is to make you feel good. When I asked my aesthetician if she cared, she shrugged and said honestly no. She only cares in delivering the service quickly and efficiently and painlessly.

IF you still decide that you will go against my advice, remember a few key rules. Make sure the wax isn't too hot (the only time I had 2nd degree burns from waxing was when I self waxed on my own for the first time), follow the directions exactly, do a 24-hour skin test, be patient, and do not peel the strip, but rather quickly yank as shown in the directions. And make sure that the skin is taut and clean.

For products, I've had a lot of luck with pre-waxed strips from Veet and Byly's warm roll-on wax, although this can be very very messy.

And if you have any questions, do not hesitate in asking.

Damn it, why do you know more than I do about life? But more importantly, why is your advice 100% contrary to my envisioned plan? haha

jk, of course.

This is the kind of thing you only need to do wrong one time. Then you learn your lesson. Trust me.

Firebreeze gives good advice. Listen to her neck; she knows what she's talking about.

Okay, I'll take Breezy's advice this time around. If I decide to get myself waxed, I'll get it done professionally... But I'll never walk into one of those places. Hell, I don't even walk into sex shops, strip clubs, or even Hooters. So yeah, not happening.

How can you not walk into the place if one day you'll get it done? Unless you'll have a private waxer at home like a baller. Hooters is a family restaurant. :) and actually not as bad as it seems. Have to live a little Chris.

The alternative to waxing is also shaving, but I think the initial shave might cause itchiness if you don't keep it up.

Shaving is a bad idea for hairy dudes. It's like a million fire ants when it starts growing back in.

Thats the point. I probably wont get it done if I have to walk into one of those places. But its not only that, I would never want to put another human being through the horrid punishment of waxing my asshole. haha! Not to mention, that would be awkward.

And I didnt realize that going to Hooters, strip clubs, and sex stores were considered "living a litttle."

On a side note, I would probably do those things if I had a girlfriend with me... but by myself just seems weird.

Some people get their asshole bleached too. Honestly, I think the people who wax others for a living really don't care how hairy you are. Its their job. If they were grossed out, they probably wouldn't do it for a living. I really think they're just really efficient at making it as quick and smooth as possible.

I meant it as just don't say you'll never do anything and I was half joking. I'm sure there are a million things you won't do, not just going to Hooters, strip clubs, etc. You won't know until you try it. I'm not saying all of those places are for me, but at least I've been to some to say "it isn't for me." I think most people would agree you do need to live a little. It is not a knock, just to get out there and experience things.

Do things as in waxing or going to those places?

I saw The Dark Knight Rises. Now THAT'S living. haha jk... But for real, that was the best movie I have ever seen in my life.

And I think I have lived. How many people have a doctorate? How many people drive a Ford Focus? My point exactly.

Quoted for posterity. :D

Those places? Holy Jesus in Hell, boy, a medical spa/salon is not the same as a strip joint:D. The place I go to caters to both women and men, is completely professional and is in fact more sterile and organised than some clinics I've been to. In fact, given some of the places I've been, and what I do know about you, you'd actually enjoy it. It's practical and matter-the-fact and pretty clinical, but professionally friendly. Your kilometrage may vary. :D

IF, and this is in the hypothetical future if, you want to get waxed, make sure the place is licensed, and the aestheticians trained. And no, you don't go running from one room to another in a robe. Go and relax and enjoy, if you do decide to take that leap.

Alternatively, you may also wish to try trimming too. I know some people have had good success with depilatory creams (again, staying away from the pubic region), but I personally can't comment. My experiences was less than stellar.

I swear if I hear that statement from you again I am going to cut off my dick and throw it at you.

You know I was joking right?

I'm still not going to a professional... How do you look a random person in the eye after they stripped your butthole?

Probably the same way you look people/they look you in the eye after you've dispensed prescriptions for "embarrassing" conditions, or answered a question on a sensitive subject for them. Same goes for how you look a doctor in the eye after you've had a rectal or testicle exam, or women have had a pelvic exam. Or you look at a partner after you've had sex for the first time, or even some sexual mishap.

It's all about professionalism and/or just life. You can choose to be embarrassed about it, or you can choose to realize you're simply paying for and receiving a service that a professional is providing. It's not embarrassing for the professional, so why should it bother you?

Anyway, back to the original question, go get waxed professionally. Could you do it at home with the help of someone who knows what they're doing? Sure (when I wax, my husband does most of the work, and I provide an extra set of hands here and there). However, it is NOT something you want to attempt yourself, especially as a waxing newbie. Even I'm going to go get waxed professionally for the first couple of times when I start up again so my skin has a chance to acclimate.

If you want to try a depilatory, there are good threads on Magic Shave Powder in the Blank Manual sticky. My skin is too sensitive for these chemicals, but my husband for instance can use Magic with no problem on his pubic hair. Definitely do the patch test, wait 24 hours to see if there's any reaction, then proceed from there. You want the "Sensitive" powdered formula. Magic is formulated for use on the face, so it's more gentle than Nair, Veet, etc.

Apart from that, I'd suggest trimming close with clippers and/or trying an electric razor that's specifically for pubic hair (I think the one that gets good reviews is the Cleancut, but I could be wrong on that).

People in that line of work don't care, and more importantly, don't judge. What is the difference between a woman getting her legs waxed and getting your anus area or genitals waxed? Nothing at all, except you somehow have been taught that those areas are 'naughty' or 'filthy' or been made to be ashamed of them. The people who do waxing make money doing that, and believe me, they don't care, money is money...and I guarantee you they have done plenty of genital areas (women for bikini or brazillion waxes)

One of the things you learn actually living life is how much is out there and what people really think. It sounds like you have grown up pretty sheltered, we aren't in the victorian era. Sorry, but getting a PHd simply means you have done the work for s doctorate, ever hear the term 'ivory tower type", people who have achieved impressive academic credentials but haven't experienced the real world......a PHd is an accomplishment and I am not knocking it, but by itself is means very little in terms of life. In the working world, unless a job requires a PHd, it doesn't matter a whole lot, you get judged by what you do, how you deal with people, etc. One of the guys who works with me had a PHd in aeronautical engineering, which is impressive as a credential, but in the end it is what he does on the job that matters *shrug*.

Living among other things is learning to go beyond your comfort zone, a little kid stays within the shelter of limits, the kind of thing you have growing up in a family, and that is fine and wonderful for a kid, but for an adult? Not so good. You don't gain self confidence hiding out in cyber space, you don't get self confidence doing the same thing over and over, you gain it by facing down what is out there, even if you don't like something, you have done it. The devil isn't around every corner and mommy and daddy aren't there wagging their fingers at you, and most people don't care what you do or don't do. Living is realizing that in the end your life is yours, not what mom and day say it is, not what preacher man bob claims jesus said, it is what you say it is......and if you are scared or frightened, so is everyone......as a trans gal in remission so to speak, when I was in serious transition I was scared shitless of going out presenting as myself, my first outing was to one of the safest bar/restaurants in one of the safest areas you could be in, meeting with my therapist, and I was scared shitless something bad was going to happen..I was scared when I asked my hair stylist to do a makeover on me, I was scared when I got my ears pierced (what would they think of me in guy mode), when I started hormones, you name it....and want to know what I learned? Most of the fear was in my head, it held me back, not other people......

BTW, having a ford focus doesn't mean you have lived, a Ford Focus is like a Buick Regal, might be solid transport but it is nothing out there or 'living life'.......living life is riding a kick ass harley, a camaro zl1 or Mustang GT or even a classic sports car (extra points for daring to drive an old english or Italian sports car), that is living:)

Jesus Christ, catch a joke. A Ford Focus is a piece of shit.

And I don't have a PhD. I have a PharmD. I'm not saying you're wrong, but getting that damn degree was an opportunity that some people dream of....

But yeah, I was joking anyway.

Call and see if your local beauty college provides the service.

Cheap- I can get a wax that cost $45 at my salon for $20.
Anonymous- the students cycle through every six or eight weeks.
Professional- they're being trained to do it for a living.
Discreet- if you get a haircut at the same time no one who see's you go in will know what you really went there for.

Why is it so important that you get your asshole or testicles waxed?

Unless it's something vital to a relationship, like your girlfriend said she can't stand performing oral sex on anyone who has pubic hair, I would just skip it.

If you think you have to do it to be more attractive to women, let me remind you that there are plenty of attractive women that like hairy men. Like me.

Uhhhh... okay... Let me put it another way for you....

I'm fat.

I'm bald.

I'm hairy.

I think it would be more attractive if I didn't have the hair. Now, I'm not saying I would be significantly more attractive.... But maybe less disgusting would be a better way of putting it.
