I have a new tablet running uh, whatever the latest greatest version is. I'm trying to connect to my wireless, which is protected by TKIP protocol. For some reason this idiotic tablet thinks it's via some other security protocol. How do I tell it the right information?

Your Wi-Fi is password-protected?

If so, enter it when prompted.

It is...but I'm increasingly thinking that's the issue. When we moved in, the first time I logged into the wi-fi, it asked me admin-y questions and allowed me to change the password. Then before I could respond, or so I thought, it defaulted to a very long alphanumeric. But when I use that VLA, it tells me "authentication problem." Both Lady P's and my laptops can connect, but neither will show us the password they're using.

It might be that I changed the password without realizing it. Is there a way to get Vista or Mac 10.4 to show the characters in the password? I can't check "show characters" in the password prompt box, because that checkbox isn't active unless I delete the black dots that show up automatically.

Sorry, that's what I was going to suggest you do. Additional steps are beyond my abilities.

Perhaps someone with Mac expertise can weigh in.

Thanks, though. You did help narrow it down. I was mostly just trying to avoid calling tech support.

Holy crap. Someone just PMed me a link to freeware that solved the problem in like ten seconds.

It's a very good place to read and learn things.

Glad to hear that it worked.

Though you should be publicly flogged for still using Vista.
*shrug* I've never understood the hatred for Vista. To me it's the same as XP was, just a little prettier.

Excellent, thanks. Now that I have a tablet as well as a phone, I'm going to need this.

ASUS TF300T, but it's pretty likely I'll return it and get one that 1) has a USB port and 2) is 3G or 4G ready.

Read up on them before you get another just because it's 500 dollars doesn't mean it's better then one half the price.

I have, in fact. I don't know why I talked myself out of the USB port. That was dumb.

I have the tf300 also. There is a usb adapter for the device I bought so I could sync my PS3 controllers to it. Can't remember the price but I know it was under $20. Alternatively the keyboard dock does have the ports if you planned on getting that.

This is exciting news. I knew about the keyboard dock, but then it starts looking like just carrying a laptop around. Does the USB adaptor work with the power cord?

Android doesn't offer on-screen keyboards?

I'm almost certain there's an app for that.
