Exactly when was its 'hey day'? Also, the news has always been factual and unbiased. It's the reporting of the news that often runs into problems of bias.

When was the last time you watched the news? Was it before Walter Cronkite died or Dan Rather retired?

Newcasts have always had bias. Newspapers have always had editorials. What they did more of in the Hey Day was to inform viewers about issues they needed before heading into a voting booth. Now they tell us how much fucking money Spiderman made over the weekend.

I remember reading an article about the last attempt to supply "unbiased news". No one watched and the show was canceled. If people really wanted the straight facts without any opinion, someone would be supplying it.

People tend to be all about, "Tell me what I want to hear!" They either watch the news for the biased slant they want; or for the bias they hate, so they can get pissed of about it.

Sports.

I grew up at a time when my dad's best friend was the local news anchor. Been there forever, bit of an icon.

I was allowed to go see some newscasts. It really was just a job. It kinda turned me off off the news in a way.

Just some guy reading off a teleprompter.

I watch the news frequently and have since before both Cronkite and Rather. I also majored in journalism in college and worked professionally in the field after graduation.

The media has always had biases, some more than others. Back in the day before TV, publishers liked to look at themselves as the "kingmakers" in the political world. The problem now is that people confuse opinion with fact. They think if they see it on TV, or read it on the net then it has to be true. It isn't the media that has changed, it is the viewers who have changed. We have become lazy, and don't want to look for the truth.
