Wal Mart is only evil if your unfortunate (i.e. stupid enough) to work for them.
For the rest of us, great shit at cool prices.
Keep that Chinese expansion going!
Wal-Mart forces people to work for them under excruciating slave-like conditions in China and India.
They are despicable!
Unless they are holding a gun to those peoples head, forcing them against their will they aren't forcing shit.
If the company that produces a product for wal mart simply says this is the job this is what I pay take it or GTFO, that's called the free market. If you won't do it for this price someone else will....got a billion mother fuckers that are hungry.
Please keep in mind that "despicable" is a relative term too, especially when you compare the living standard of 900 million Chinese peasants to that of Americans.
Is being employed by Wal Mart in China bad?
Not as compared to being employed by a Chinese garment manufacturer in the Pearl River Delta, some PRC fireworks factory, or god forbid a coal mine in Shanxi.

Chinabandit, are you Chinese? I mean, born and raised in China?
Are you currently living in China?
How do you access this website with all of the government internet censorship?
Wal-Mart can have the effect of putting legions of small businesses out of business. When the only jobs in the the county are at the super Wal-Mart and you can't go back to school because you have kids or something.... What are ya going to do?
Mike, it's not Wal-Mart. These are products people want. If it weren't them, then it would be someone else selling them. Come down off the ledge and we can talk about all this stuff. The tobacco, armaments, medical, pharmaceutical, petroleum, agriculture, and food industries are responsible for some pretty fucking horrendous "atrocities-for-profit."
The medical-pharmaceutical complex especially, they are the cause of more death and human misery than anyone or anything else in the entire world. They have enough blood and tears on their hands to fill the ocean.
So we're all holdin' hands here.
So we're all holdin' hands here.
That's good to know.
Because the two of us need to keep track of Mike.
He will spaz out at random times, and nobody knows when that will happen.
It's my belief that if both of us are watching him, he won't get the boot.
So... up to the job?
I am not Chinese.
I currently live in China.
There are several of us living here that post. For example, MichaelInChina. How Lit is available is an unknown mystery. I am sure that a Chinese equivalent would be repressed immediately.
Aren't you afraid that PRC thugs are going to arrest you if they find out that you are illegally bypassing their censors and freely expressing your political views?
Just for the record, political dissidents are brutally tortured and executed in China. It is one of the world's most repressed societies next to North Korea.
All corporations are fairly evil, unfortunately; you can try going for ethical alternatives, but if you're terminally short of cash ... it's a mine-field.
The thing is we, posting in China, are not illegally by-passing censors. The Lit URL is readily available through the ISP (no doubt government supervised) that I use. Why? I can't answer that. Things such as youtube, youporn and FaceBook are not accessible. I can't connect to any youtube or youporn links within Lit threads. However, I can access jpeg images as posted. It's a strange world Mike.
That's why I shop lift from time-to-time. No guilt whatsoever.
