Hey, edward is not creepy, he's a sweetheart. :(

but I know what you mean, I'm just saying. ^_^

Edward is a sweetheart! I guess I just found the whole movie to be creepy. But don't let me rain on your parade. I love the romance!

Ok we're talking about Edward Scissor hands. I thought I was hearing the goodness of Mr. Cullen.

*Shudders.*

Who is not adorable. He is creepy. And a stalker. And an emotional abuser. And a narcissist.

I could go on.

.... But at least he's better than Jacob.

I don't do twilight.

I didn't see any wizards or spaceships, so I was like, eff that. ^_^

Well, whats important to remember is that the entire series does a fantastic job of validating and encouraging abusive relationships, which is really fantastic for young girls.

Yes, I have heard this said before. I have the general idea of the story, and I agree.

But, as an avid reader, I am almost just glad that kids are reading. This opens the door for them to perhaps read something more substantive and healthy. We can adress their awful taste later. :p

My issue is not with their awful taste.
I don't care if they read crap (well, I do, but thats not the issue). The more pop-culture continues to embrace and romanticize violence in relationships, the worse things get. This is an epidemic in our country. The number of women who end up in the hospital or dead because of boyfriends or husbands is obscene. These books basically say that's normal...that true love means he gets to abuse you because he's just SO in love with you and can't you just let this slide it really is just your own fault for making him so crazy.

HOLY FUCK IVE STEPPED IN HELL...

no.. no just adults talking about twilight again.

-shivers- All those twilight fans will someday have voting rights. That scares the fuck out of me.

Did you read The Host?

Oh, I need to keep in line with the thread topic. I am talking about creepy scissor hand men and scifi books.

I suppose this is true. I was all for Harry Potter. Even Hunger Games. (Though I was a little in arms. So if we're gonna read books about children being forced to murder each other and such. Why can't more kids read Ender's Game?)

I dunno. It only bothers me when I hear someone say that what Edward Or Jacob does is so romantic. And suddenly I'm half tempted to ask, what happens if I do it?

Cause the results. Not the same.

Just a shame this drivel is the only thing they're reading. Its an equally measured shame that the common image of a Vampire now is Mr. Cullen; "Who's that?" - "He's a Vampire." - "Oh man, like Edward?" - "Not really." - "Hey, he's just turned to dust in the sunlight! That shouldn't happen, he should sparkle!" - *Backhand*.

I'll introduce the family to Blade, that'll shut them up.

Back to my original point, I guess you're right in that they are reading. It would just be nice if it wasn't something like The Hunger Games, Twighlight or some such. However, as you say, we can come to that. We just need them to get past the reading age of a four year old first.

I remember that. Somewhere in the second book where Jacob is supposedly trying to push Bella away.

"But I could kill you." And this is perfectly Ok with him. He thinks that's a normal adult response to someone he loves. You upset me, I lost my temper, and savaged you to the point of hideous scarring. Or possibly just killed you. (Ever wonder why so FEW of the werewolves have girlfriends, or even mothers?) This is something he considers normal, and fine, and natural.

The Fuck is wrong with people? How is that romantic or sexy, or anything.

Likes creepy... I'd say its my middle name but somehow it became my first.

Now i'm wishing could have dinner with Jonny Depp, Anthony Hopkins, Lenard Nemoy, Shannon Tweed, Gabrielle Anwar and Pauley Perrette.

Women are to blame. They are the ones that buy those shit books and find that stupid nonsense sexy and romantic.

Many of them do. Largest market consumer was married Women 21-34.
Largest Market consumer of Fifty shades of grey as well. But I have far fewer problems with that book. Main character there might be a complete idiot, but at least she goes into that relationship knowing what she wants and agreeing to it.

...wondering who Edward and Jacob are...

*Kisses*

I could kiss you twice for that. Never learn. You'll be happier.

Oh, now that would be an excellent dinner party group.

It's true. Before it was Ann Rice. Rape and assault are common in many. Levels favored by women. We could argue for days what's be cause but it hardly matters. The point is that females create the demand. The industry just sates it.

Not disagreeing. But those same kids are the ones that made The Hunger Games popular, which I have read. This is a much healthier message, that oppressiveness must be resisted, and the perpetrators abandoned if necessary. It teaches that a young woman can be strong, and indeed, a force in the world.

Twilight did no such thing, true, but it did make TV addled children believe that reading a book was worth their time.

Wow, not many like the hunger games. Well, thats fine I suppose. I thought it contained a good message, despite the violence. It's not Ulysses or anything, but meh.

If you can't tell, I like to follow pop culture books to get an idea of whats going through their heads.
