There seems to be a lot of 'grumblings' about this Fifty Shades of Grey. Keywords being thrown around are sexually explicit, not for younger readers and erotic.

There's this big debate on whether or not it should be age-restricted... Bollocks, sex is too taboo for most people's own good this day and age. Especially in the UK.

Ummm. Yes. Yes it should be. Listen, I'm not always one for the concept of protection of an innocent mind. I think if you shelter children from the concept of things, they won't learn it properly when you suddenly expect them to get it. (at 19 or 21.)

I think Watered down wine, and small beer is appropriate to be given occasionally and on special occasions to 12 year olds. I think Children should be taught gun safety and how to shoot by 14. I think they should learn how to properly use a knife by 10. I think full sex education should be thrust on 16 year olds. Including Homosexual practice, condom and alternative birth control and disease prevention.

But I wouldn't give a 15 year old a copy of Score Magazine. He needs to be 18 to read it. And if we have any laws for the sale of things to minors. Fifty shades of Grey deserves to make that list. and it Also should not be for sale to minors.

I'm lawful first. That's my alignment.

I have no actual interest in reading 50 Shades, but I've been told its a very, very light BDSM Romance novel that's making every housewife on the planet into those damn books think that they suddenly want to have that in their lives.

A facebook post I saw recently was an image of what I guess is the main guy's tie? And a reference to the book that says "Guys, you've asked for a handbook on what women want. Here it is."

But I do think that the majority of people are too scared about what is, to be honest, the ultimate goal of human life. Its no secret that the UK has the highest STD/STI and teen pregnancy rate in Europe (if I recall correctly), and I believe that's largely down to many schools eliminating, entirely, sex education.

On a side note, though, I disagree with the firearms training. I've been around firearms since I was seven, going out with the farmers with an air rifle and moving up from there, but the amount of people I've seen take firearms to an unsafe standard is ridiculous. I've seen people take their kids to firing ranges and the kids are pointing guns down the firing line, but I guess with traning that would get weeded out. To many people take games literally.

Enders Game was truly a great book. I didn't know they were making a movie. That makes me wish I could forget the story in time for it to come out.

It's kind of like the sixth sense. once you know, it's just not as fun.

Its VERY badly written.
I mean just HORRIBLE use of language.

I know quite a number of men who enjoy reading Ann Rice. Males create demand in different forms. So, I think it's far wiser to say that society creates the demand and the industry feeds it. Free commerce, go figure.

That is probably fair. Still, women are the majority stock holders when it comes to the Twilight following and that of most violent-themed romance novels. They sell for the simple reason that many, many women enjoy reading the content.

You can't blame the art, cheap as you might find it.

As much as it was convenient to blame Marilyn Manson for violent kids there's no real correlative data to suggest he's responsible. The same, I believe, goes towards violent and abusive themes in popular novels.

It's silly to condemn an art form for that kind of reason. If anything art tends to be a mirror on a cultures values.


It's also misleading to suggest that this epidemic of abuse on women is new. It's not. It used to be a mans right to rape a woman of they were married. Humans are animals, after all. It's cruel but it's real. We have a long way to go but I think we've come a long way since the days of raping and pillaging.

At least in this country.

It is pretty light. I know you write a lot of darker stuff.

And I think proper education, with teachers being paid a proper wage, and the ability to fail students. To not push students through a bad system would be tremendous. and I think proper instruction in Knives. Firearms, and Sexual activity. Followed by a mandatory two year period after school of Civil service, or military training would make better adults, and better people.

But not one of those things is going to happen in North America.

Agreed and human nature is evolving but as you said, we still have a long, long way to go. There will always be fundamental tendencies in each gender that I don't think will ever go away. Educating and being a role model for the younglings will go a long way toward evolution.
