Hello, I want to get a corset as a surprise for my wife (and obviously for me... :D )

I'm thinking of a simple black underbust brocade style. Want to use for romps in the bedroom.
I was initially looking at either corset-story.com or corsetdeal.com that are steel boned w/ a modesty panel.
I also googled Amazon and they have cheaper versions that I 'assume' are not boned as their is no note in the description that they are.

Obviously I don't have a clue about corsets.
Are the cheaper versions better for what we're looking for considering that we're just looking for something for my wife to wear during one-on-one activities?
I'm assuming the boned versions are a true corset for slimming, but will a boned version be too stiff for rolling around in the bed?

My wife has a nice body but a little waste slimming from the corset would be sexy.

Thoughts?

Steel boning is more durable but also less flexible. Synthetic (plastic, actually) boning flexes more but there's a risk of breakage.

If she's larger than a size 12, you might want to check out Torrid.com (or one of their stores if you have one nearby). They usually have a few styles in their lineup, though they might be more top-like than what you're looking for. I'll attest to their general quality, though. My daughter loves their styles and has quite a collection, and I've rarely had to do any repairs on them. They're also less expensive than a traditional corset so it might be a good way to give them a try without committing too much money.

I hear ya regarding letting her pick out but I'm also excited about buying as a gift and surprising - she tends to enjoy that. Also thought it might be cool to have it shipped to her office as a surprise...

She's a size 10 w/ a 28" waste and 36c bust.

Are the steel bone corsets such as the following OK for bedroom play or best to stay away from boned versions?

If a non-boned (terminology) version is better for our needs what's the best on-line site for purchasing?
I have a feeling online would offer the best price.

Thanks,
Steve

Steel boned could be uncomfortable for your wife...depending on the type of "play" you're talking about because they are less flexible.

I like the styles at "Timeless Trends" or "Torrid". Just Google them.

And have fun!!! :D

Boned/unboned

Corsets without steel boning tend to be less durable and won't give such a 'cinched' look to the waist, but as your wife is very slim this probably won't matter. You could try the unboned version first and if she likes it progress to a more pricey boned one, if she expresses an interest in corsetry. A friend has recommended Corsets Boulevard to me for 'dress' corsets, giving the look, without the tight lacing.

Good steel boned corsets are available from What Katie Did:

I have an underbust and overbust one and love them both. They are London based but have recently opened a store in the U.S. too. These corsets are beautiful to be worn as outerwear or in the boudoir. They can feel a little restrictive at first, (though this is part of the fun, surely), yet after a few hours of wear they flex a little better. The WKD site also gives good advice and information on choosing the right corset. If you're ordering a boned corset for tight lacing then it should be in a size 2inches smaller than her waist.

I love corsetry and I'm sure your wife would appreciate a gift of something pretty or saucy, (just get the sizing right).

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Sylvia.
Well, i had ordered a nice white underbust w/ spiral lacing; closeout priced item from corset story. I immediately regretted the white as I would have preferred black.
Arrived and seemed to be well made but had the size wrong...
No big deal as the more I thought about I planned on returning for a different color.
We're currently waiting on a nice black that my wife picked out, she was still excited about the thought and surprise; looking forward to the unveiling

She has even joined here and been lurking arround... HI HONEY ;)

Elizabethan vs Victorian

You might also think about renaissance vs Victorian corsets. Renaissance are straight, with no cups. this causes the breasts to "pop" over the top because they are squished.

:eek:Thanks for outing me as a lurker! I would have eventually found something to comment on. But since I'm here...Hi everyone!:)

I don't think your first corset needs to be anything special as you'll soon learn that if they're not made for your measurements they'll be nothing more than a bit of fun. So just buy something you think is sexy, fits and is a decent price.

If you want a seriously sexy one either get down to a store which will measure her there, or get out a tape measurer and find a site that makes them to order. It'll make your wallet lighter but you'll see where the money goes.

I have made and worn corsets from 14th century England/France/Italy all the way up to Civil war/Antebellum era; and done many many activities in them. You make an excellent sintexs. A big help if she is like me, relatively fleshy but needing some smoothing is a plastic boned corset with what is called a "rack". In costuming it is something along the lines of a hand towel rolled up length-wise, placed beneath the breasts after the corset is laced. It does something similar to what a padded or push up bra would do to cleavage. You can find some authentic corset replicas using wood-willow bark- if you look and you don't mind paying extra for the authenticity. From a literal stand point: Nothing gives you the shape of a metal boned corset. They photograph stunningly. They are very uncomfortable as you are sinched up tight in something like that- like organs shifting around inside tight. It is hard to breath, bend, let alone the preclusivities a romp might intailed. I recomend a plastic boned corset- from personal experience in romping-they wear better. It is best for being bent over something, ontop of something, rolling, teasing- just superior wear and comfort. Good luck!

Just want to follow-up with the results... :D

Ended up w/ the following from Corset Story; very nice corset.

Well, last weekend my brother and his wife took the kids for the night so we could have a date night and privacy here at the house!
Went to a nice local one-off restaurant not far from the house; had some nice steaks and couple drinks - brought up going to a movie or ??? but we both really just wanted to go home...

Anxiously awaited for my wife to emerge; when she did appear I was in complete awe!!!!!!
She was dressed in the black corset, black garters / stockings, and long black high-heeled boots - absolutely stunning :nana:

Sorry, no pics. She's camera shy but did say it was OK to share comments... ;)
Definitely a great buy!!
We had a lot of fun that night; plan on scheduling more one-on-one time in the future...
