Hey I'm a new here and I'm trying to get a feel for the other authors and readers on this site. I wanted to know if on this site people like the kind of stories where there is a little more build up leading to the sex. not like some stories where its all like "hey nice to meet you, wanna fuck?" not that there is anything wrong with this kinds of stories, I just like something thats a bit more realistic.

I am only asking this because I'm currently working on a series where there is a good amount of build up in them, but not too much where you get bored.
so if you do like these kind of stories please let me know.

thanks for your time.

Some do, some don't.

When I posted my first story I thought I might get panned for having too much talk and not enough sex. But going by the feedback, a lot of people are hanging out for slower stories, so don't let that worry you.

Don't expect to please everybody, it's never going to happen. And it's not like anybody here is paying you, so you might as well write what you enjoy :)

thanks that really helped

Bramblethorn pretty much hit it on the head. You get plenty of people of both mindsets: some just want a well-written sex piece, and others want some story to go with it... or maybe even, hoping against hope, to find a good story that also has sex in it along with being a good story.

If you are concerned, it's not a bad idea to put a quick author's note at the beginning of a piece saying, "No sex right away, but it's there," or maybe, "Gonna be a couple chapters before the actual sex starts."

Also, just as Bramblethorn says, write what you want. You aren't being paid for this, so make yourself happy with your story.

Bramblethorne is right. You'll find all sorts of readers here with all sorts of motivations for reading the stories and poems they do. Some are looking for quick wank stuff. Others are looking for real stories.

Just write what you like to write in the way you like to write it.

My stories tend to be real stories (with real settings) with real character (who have personalities and 'backstories' and who do things (or not) for real and understandable motivations). My stories have always been multi-chapter stories (anywhere from 3 to 31 chapters). Some readers tell me my stories 'start too slow'. Others tell me the stories start slow, but they find themselves rewarded as they get into them. Most of my readers like the fact that my stories are just like reading any other stories, and they like and value the depth of the characters and the literary treatment I give my subjects.

So, I'd say don't try to write to some particular audience, because some of the readers here will be a part of that audience and some won't, and if you write a story in some other way those audiences will just be reversed

Those who post in the Authors' Hangout are a tiny percentage of those who read stories on Literotica. Our opinions might give an idea of what readers like because we too are trying to reach an audience, but looking at the Top Lists for any category of story will give an idea of what is popular.

I think Ogg has it. And generally speaking, this site has too wide of an audience to really answer your question. There are lots of stroke stories, lots of non-stroke stories, and even a non-erotic category. So there's something for everyone.

I have one comment that makes me laugh every time i see it. It is on a non-erotic category story. The first comment in fact. It reads: Where's the sex?

My favorite came from a reader after I made an author's note that said something to the effect of this is a Taboo story, not an Incest story and of course one of the first comments given: "Where's the Incest?"

My favorite comment came from an editor. This:

"Your story sure has a lot of words. Next time, please do me the favor of alphabetizing them first, before you send it to me."

Okay, I guess I should rephrase to: there's something for everyone who pays attention. :)

He must have just finished watching Amadeus. At least he didn't say there were too many of them.

If you wanna be a BIG hit here have your main character come outta the closet or express his/her secret desire to be queer, somewhere in the first few paragraphs.

Welcome! :)

Literotica is a BIG site. You get all kinds of authors and all kinds of readers with all kinds of tastes. So long as your stories are well written and posted in the right category with a helpful summary, most likely you will gain an apreciative fanbase.

If I might just offer one piece of advice, be cautious about writing a "Loving Wives" story. The critics you strike in that section are very harsh.

If you wanna be a BIG hit here have your main character come outta the closet or express his/her secret desire to be queer, somewhere in the first few paragraphs.

Or, alternatively you could form your own "club" here in the forums, hold numerous unofficial story contests, and repeatedly declare yourself the winner.
