Obama Care, How Will Be Judged On Thursday?

Yeah, yeah, we know you're invincible, cupcake.
So far, I have been...

Here I am.

Many guys think that when they're young. Most of 'em, thankfully, outgrow that phase.
I had health insurance when I was young. Never went without it.

But when I was 28, I became very ill. I went to doctor after doctor, all sorts of invasive fucked-up tests, results all negative. Thousands and thousands of dollars. Well, I finally had a use for my health insurance. The problem was: they couldn't figure out what was wrong. One arrogant doctor actually suggested it was all in my head, since his tests were negative, and perhaps I ought to seek psychiatric help for my problem. Eventually, it resolved on its own. Somehow, my body figured it out and fought back, and eliminated whatever the problem was.

Once I was better, I cancelled my health insurance, which had proven to be worthless. I've been uninsured since then, and just paid out-of-pocket whenever I've needed health care.

If I ever come down with some illness that I can't afford to pay for, let me die before I cost any American taxpayer a fucking dime.

There was no violence (or anything else) done to your "liberty", drama queen.

A law was passed, signed and upheld that you don't like.

Get all your friends together (if you have any) and work to change it if you don't like it. The problem you'll find is, most people in America don't feel like you do. That's the risk of living in a republic.
No, actually, most Americans do feel like I do.

And that's how this ruling could turn around and bite your hero Obama in the ass.

One wag observed that our choices are Democrat, GOP, and conservatives. I pick conservatives when we got em.

The GOP is done for. Conservatives are done for.

They have to run on taking stuff away, and that was the point of getting the law passed no matter the dishonest means.

Now, we'll be like Europe and the only allowable discussion will be who can manage the decline and ration the benefits the best.

The only thing we can do now is grin, bear it, pay taxes, die and have our estates mandated to the government to cover the cost of turning us to soylent...

;) ;)

... but from the ashes, the Phoenix has been known to rise.

The penalty is not set up in a way that can lead to criminal charges, or even civil charges (i.e. seizure of assets, placing a lien of property). It can be withheld from tax refunds for those that get a refund, but that’s basically the extent of enforcement, you fucking drama queen.
Are you daft, or are you just clowning around?

There's just one number at the bottom line on your 1040 form, and that's what you owe the IRS.

Try not paying it sometime, and then get back to me, if they let you make calls from prison.

Looks like the Libs got a Gordian knot to untangle.

As I heard it this afternoon the IRS has no teeth to compel collection of the tax. I suspect they can keep your income tax refund, but they cant garnish wages or grab your assets or toss you in jail.

Of course they can, it is the same as any other tax. You either pay it or they can begin the standard collection regimen, up to and including forfeiture of property, wages or freedom. They need only pass a single amendment granting enforcement of the tax to IRS (and probably do not even need pass it as IRS already has enforcement power for all federal taxation and USSC just turned this penalty into a tax).

I expect that the IRS will have to make a new 1040 form: health insurance premiums paid will be listed on Line 43 and the tax amount (as set by the law) will be listed on Line 44. If Line 43 is greater than 0, then tax owed is 0, if line 43 is 0, then tax owed is line 44. Very simple (and eventually, they can add in some simple math and if Line 43 is smaller than Line 44, you will have to pay the difference (so that nobody pays less for health insurance than the tax would require if they had no insurance).

The enforcement won't happen immediately, but it will happen.

I listened to a panel of judges and lawyers yesterday, who are of the opinion that the enforcement of the mandate/tax has no teeth. If they toss you in jail youre exempt from the tax-mandate.

I wanna look at the specific laws that apply to the ACA-IRS scope of work, to see for myself whats likely to happen. I imagine that enforcement follows the lines of the civil process, that is, the IRS can access your records to determine your worth, but if youre retired or head of household with dependents they may not be able to touch your money. That is, they cant impoverish you to pay for insurance.
You know what would be awesome?

If they declared a mandate, and nobody paid it.

They can't jail everyone!

In Phase 2 of a discussion with Byron, we typically find Byron posturing that he's somehow "better" (smarter, wealthier, more handsome, wittier) than his opponent.

It's a classic homeskool defense mechanism.
In phase 564 of Rob's schtick, we find him pretending to make sense in deriding his betters.

*chuckle*

lol

I'm reminded of a newspaper article about one of my ancestors. He was hired by Ole Miss and had packed a crate with his library. The crate was 5x5x5, and I figure held 2500 books (theyre now in David Lipscomb College). But all the reporterette wanted to write about was the size of the crate.

Dear GOP,

This is your last chance. If you blow this, I’m out and you need to be destroyed.

What is it? Repeal ObamaCare on Day 1. Don’t worry about replace, don’t worry about anything else…

[A]s soon as Mitt takes the oath of office, before his speech no one will care or remember, walk the bill up to him at the podium to sign.

If this does not happen, the GOP must be destroyed and a new party built to replace it. We’ve tried the carrot approach (votes, money, volunteers) to change your behavior. Now it’s time to show you the stick.

If you became chronically ill and needed long-term care while uninsured, would you be okay with medical facilities turning you away? And insurance companies denying you coverage because you're expensive?
Of course.

I've assumed care for myself, by myself, since I was 28 years old.

If I didn't have enough money to pay to fix me, then absolutely, I'd let myself be turned away and die. What's my life worth that someone I don't even know owes me to pay to sustain it? That's just bullshit.

And... here's another thing: tell me if it's terminal. I can liquidate all sorts of stuff and prolong my living existence, but... if I'm not getting out of the hospital, then why impoverish people who are alive that I care about? Don't just tell me "we're doing all we can" when you know I'm going to die.
