Obama Care, How Will Be Judged On Thursday?

The "penalty" will probably manifest itself in the inherent taxes the law brings into being. I just heard an estimate of increased taxes for a family making 30K a year will go up $2200 a year in 2014. That's a fair chunk for that income group.

What would their medical costs be if they went all out of pocket?

Then he should start running ads on his fix. The reality is that the Republicans either liked the old way or were too stupid to even suggest a solution before. Which is true with most of what's wrong in America.

Yes, that is the best solution for when someone disagrees with you. They must be stupid or deluded. *sarcasm*

Like the day after the next election.

You finally gonna exhibit some "Marine Corps Testicular Fortitude" you claim to have and be man enough to go on record with who you think will win the next election?

didn't think so.....

Yes it is. But since you're new lets break this down a bit.

If we both see a fire we both agree there is a problem. I say we should use a hose and you respond we should use a fire extinguisher. We both have answers to the problem and while (in real life this argument needs to end pretty quick for obvious reasons) we can have a debate over who's answer is best.

On health care the Democrats screamed fire and Republicans replied, it is kinda warm. Democrats suggested UHC or a mandate as an appeasement. Republicans replied, both those ideas suck. I don't have an answer but I know yours suck.

You can't not offer a solution a problem.

If the GOP House keeps the status quo when the law is fixed.

Folks need to read the whole opinion before they climb out on the ledge. George Will says Roberts fucked Obama, and I agree. It truly is a major defeat for Liberals.

George Will also confidently predicted that Obamacare would be overturned as a violation of contract law.

If this is a "major defeat" for libruls, I'm sure they would wish for many more "defeats".

UPDATE: James Taranto:

So what we have here is another 5-4 decision, just like Bush v. Gore and Citizens United. But as a political matter, NFIB v. Sebelius is different in two important ways. The obvious one is that this time the left loves the outcome. Somebody will have fun compiling a list of quotes from lefties bewailing 5-4 decisions yesterday, then praising this one. You can start with Reich.

The second difference is that the result in this decision is likely to be hated by people who aren’t immersed in politics. The left hated Bush v. Gore for partisan reasons and hates Citizens United for ideological ones. People who aren’t particularly partisan or ideological had no reason to care about either of those rulings. But this one will affect their health care, and a large majority of the public has long been hostile, and rightly so, to ObamaCare.

What’s more, Roberts’s opinion has made a liar of President Obama, who in a 2009 interview with ABC News insisted that the mandate was “is absolutely not a tax increase.” He even lectured the network’s George Stephanopoulos, who had cited the dictionary definition of tax: “George, the fact that you looked up Merriam’s Dictionary, the definition of tax increase, indicates to me that you’re stretching a little bit right now. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have gone to the dictionary to check on the definition.”

In 2008, Obama promised not to raise taxes on middle-class taxpayers. Oops. Maybe he can win back swing voters by telling them the word gullible isn’t in the dictionary.

He won the last time didn't he?

I'm not liking this depressed, defeated side of you, Vette.

I want the old Vette back. The one from way back when this thread was made and who had a stubborn hope and conviction that the Liberal Agenda® would surely be dealt a mortal wound if not a death blow.

That Vette, even though he would be wrong (and can be wrong, many times) was a happy Vette. You could feel the happiness radiating from his stubbly cheeks.

Bring him back, okay?

I agree with this

A HUGE WIN FOR OBAMA

A HUGE LOSS FOR DUMZ IN 2016

Did President Obama Just Win Re-Election?

The shocking decision by the Supreme Court that upholds the constitutionality of the individual mandate and the rest of Obamacare may be seen in hindsight as a primary reason for the re-election of Barack Obama for a second term.

There is little doubt that the decision will energize the right of the Republican Party. And in a bi-election like 2010, that would be critical in contributing to overwhelming victory.

The turnout in 2010 was made up mostly of partisans from both sides. But in a national election like 2012, twice as many people end up voting, including far more independent-minded citizens as well as those who don’t pay any attention to politics. An argument can be advanced that the victory in the Supreme Court by the Obama administration can be seen as a huge boost to his re-election chances.

Here are a few reasons why:

1. Everyone likes a winner. The unexpected triumph by the president in the Supreme Court will energize his supporters and contribute to an aura of Obama as a winner. Even a boost of 2-3% in swing states as a result of this could make the difference between victory and defeat.

2. Despite the unpopularity of the individual mandate, certain elements of Obamacare that were upheld are very popular. Forcing insurance companies to accept those with pre-existing conditions, the expansion of Medicaid, insurance subsidies for most Americans, and reducing out of pocket costs for drugs by seniors all enjoyed a majority of support in polls. People also like the idea of getting goodies from the federal government. You can bet that the Obama campaign will hit these points hard in the coming months, reminding voters who is responsible for providing them with such largess.

3. There may be some backlash against Republicans in continuing their agitation for repeal of Obamacare. There are many voters who might believe that now that the Supreme Court has spoken, we should move on from this debate and that Republican advocacy for repeal could be seen as more partisan politics than standing on principle.

4. Finally, the issue may turn out to be a winner for Obama given Romney’s creation of a similar program while governor of Massachusetts and his previous support for an individual mandate. The Obama campaign hasn’t even begun to explore Romney’s flip flopping on the issue, and even if SCOTUS had ruled differently, this potentially fertile line of attack would have become one of the centerpieces of the Obama campaign’s critique of their opponent.

Zoomie, that vettebirther is gone, only to be replaced by an even sadder vettebirther after the election.

Where were you 4 years ago? McCain just showed up to the debates and had nothing on the topic of health care?

He advocated a tax credit for individuals and families that would allow them to purchase their own health insurance. This was in addition to other tax and insurance reform. So don't pretend like Republicans were taking the "let's just leave it the way it is" viewpoint.

And please, don't talk to me like I'm 5 years old.

The irony of this decision is that the incompetent Obama administration were too stupid to make their case, so Roberts had to show them how to best bamboozle the American people. Roberts has fucked up twice with major consequences for America, he'll stand right up there with Robert Taney in history.

Bitter Vettebigot is VERY bitter today.

On a positive note, though, the Supreme Court also overturned the "stolen valor" statute, so now Vetty can go back to wearing his two PX-purchased Navy Crosses with impunity!

Emails: White House worked with health industry to send business to Axelrod’s firm

The charge that the Obama administration coordinated with the health-care industry in 2009 during the Obamacare fight to send a good chunk of business to the consulting firm founded by presidential adviser David Axelrod has resurfaced in the news media.

At issue is whether the White House worked with officials inside the industry to form the outside group, “Healthy Economy Now,” which ran pro-Obamacare ads with the help of Axelrod’s former political consulting firm, AKPD Message and Media.

In 2009, the firm not only still employed Axelrod’s son, but it still owed the presidential adviser money as part of his buy-out deal with the firm ahead of leaving to work in the White House.

New details have emerged with the House Energy and Commerce Committee recently releasing a barrage of emails showing communications between the administration and the industry sent ahead of the push for Obama’s health care overhaul.

The emails — which have been reviewed by The Daily Caller — include the revelation that the AKPD consultants were being described as “[White House] WH-designated folks.”

“They have been put in charge of the campaign to pass health reform,” Pharmaceutical Research and Manufactures of America (PhRMA) consultant Steve McMahon wrote of a group of consultants, including those from AKPD.

The emails also show how the health-care industry was concerned in 2009 about the revelation in the media that they were partnering with AKPD.

“I want to alert everyone to a potential problem,” wrote Ken Johnson, the senior vice president of PhRMA, in an email to colleagues on June 30, 2009.

“Bloomberg is getting ready to report that ‘political consultants’ close to the White House — more specifically close to [now-former White House Chief of Staff] Rahm Emanuel — will be running our 100 million plus dollar campaign to try to pass comprehensive health care reform,” he wrote.

PhRMA lobbyist Bryant Hall responded, writing, “This is a big problem.”

Democratic consultant Nick Baldick chimed in: “Your person can just say, AKPD is not working for PhRMA.”

Hall responded: “Yes — we can spin whatever, but just depends on who is talking to Bloomberg and what they are saying.”

“I also get the impression from talking to the reporter that we will get a heavy dose of criticism for selecting these particular consultants,” Johnson wrote.

The consultants apparently being referenced were John Del Cecato, Larry Grisolano and Andy Grossman. In a June 3, 2009 email, McMahon, the PhRMA consultant, described them as the “WH-designated folks” and wrote that they “are very close to Axelrod (Griz and DelCecato are partners in Ax’s firm).”

The emails suggest that the Obama administration had a role in the creation of the Healthy Economy Now group, which came about after a April 15, 2009 meeting attended by White House official Jim Messina.

In an April 13 email, Jon Selib, chief of staff to Democratic Sen. Max Baucus, wrote to officials inside the health-care industry: “Messina and I are organizing a meeting on health reform at the [Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee] DSCC on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 P.M.”

Don't misunderstand my demeanor, the battle is far from over. The election is Romney's to lose. Let Obama run on this massive tax increase on the Middle Class, let him defend his lies of the past about the virtues of this monstrous assault on our liberty, now that Roberts has put the lie to his claims. This was a tactical defeat for sure, but we'll be more than happy to sweep the battlefield in November.:D

massive tax increase? You take some personal responsibility for the health of yourself and your family and there is NO increase.

Of course, "personal responsibility" to a fringe right winger is like garlic to a vampire......

Quote of the Day

Because there is no higher authority than the Supreme Court, whatever it says is true — no matter how absurd. If a majority of the Supremes decide that ObamaCare is constitutional, then it is, 9th and 10th Amendments be damned. Decorum has been damned too, as Demorrhoids celebrate the big victory for authoritarian collectivism.

The ACORN/SEIU-affiliated Patrick Gaspard was National Political Director of Obama’s 2008 campaign, and now serves as Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee. In light of John Roberts’s seeming defection to the court’s left wing and the subsequent upholding of ObamaCare, Gaspard reached across the aisle with this less than gracious tweet:

“it’s constitutional. Bitches.”

At least now we can drop the working-together-to-find-middle-ground road apple. The Democrat Party and its allies are completely devoted to dragging America down into socialism, with all the poverty and tyranny that will inevitably entail. All of us worthy to call ourselves Americans must be completely devoted to stopping them.

By grinding their arrogant authoritarianism in the country’s face, Obama, Gaspard, et al. are laying the groundwork for patriots to turn this into a Pyrrhic victory for the internal enemies our Constitution was intended to defend us against.
