I don't see China as a wild card in a Christian versus Islam confrontation. They don't have any stake in the Israeli/Palestine issue either. Why? A potential Palestine state won't offer any natural resources and neither does Israel. Access to the same is all the Chinese care about. They have some interest in the Iranian issue because of the oil.

UAE oil reserves are ranked sixth globally. Oil is a critical pillar to the economy. Abu Dhabi in Qatar is a very modernistic city too. The UAE is also the financial center of the Middle East. In theory, the bad guys do their banking in the UAE as well. That's why you never see a terrorist attack in the Emirates. As they say, no one wants to shit where they eat.
