Autumn Valley OOC

was wondering would the town's police for be kept pretty well staffed? was kind of thinking and realizing that besides handyman Sig is probably mostly jobless as well and given his penchant for being driven to help people he might figure working with the local police might be right up his alley.

The town's police is pretty sparsely staffed as there's not much need for it. A handful of cops can patrol the whole town and keep the peace.

Does your town have a priest?

A couple, though the town practices a unique mix of Christianity and Paganism, as I mentioned before.

If you're asking to join though, I repeat we're not taking any new writers at this time. If we have a dropout I'll open up the casting again, but it's first come first served.

Alright, let's give everyone else a chance to post at least an intro, and then I think we can fast forward to the evening and the first of the annual festivities. Cool? Feel free to make up whatever events and games you want. Give the town some nice harvest season color.

Wanted to put some closure on Fi and Sam's convo before the scene change. Now I wait :)

Finally found a minute to read the thread and reply to it. I'm hijacking Robert Vervloet for a post or two, just to give Allison someone to talk to a bit. If anyone wishes to drive him, they should.

Also, Fiona seems to have the fiery redhead thing down, so Allison has become blonde. She will still be a nuisance.

Oh, you don't have to stop posting. Just make sure you're ready to make the transition.

I loved that intro. Actually close to how I imagined Robert would be.

Anyway, we're waiting on just three more people at this point. If they don't have an intro up by Monday, we'll just go ahead with the evening's festivities and all the sex that I'm assuming will go with it.

Save the wicker man, though. He doesn't get lit up until later in the month. And if anyone is curious, the Draven family cider is called Red Wolf. They sell a lot of it to The Black Cat and the local restaurants, though during the Harvest Festival you can buy it directly from them at the farm. The non-alcoholic variety is called Red Pup.

Well I just wanted to throw a response out for Renee since everyone was crowding the bakery. if you had another response in there I will edit my post to compensate for it. Just wanted to give everyone a little attention while we waited for the others to catch up.

Second shot

Name: “Cody” Eldridge Dillon
Age: 27 (Not counting the years he slept)

Appearance: Cody appears to be an athletic 27 year old white male. He’s fit but on the skinny side with long curly brown hair and blue eyes who looks like he should be in a Led Zeppelin tribute band. He’s usually tan in the summer months. On his upper left bicep he has a rather large medieval green dragon tattoo which starts just below his sleeve ling and continues on to his back. Tattooed across his back is “a Deucalione” which is Latin for A long time ago.

Personality: For the most part Cody is an upbeat friendly guy who is pleasant to everyone in town and visitors alike. He get’s up every day with the thought that there is so much to accomplish and only 12 hours to do it. If people were to find trouble with the man it is that he’s too busy. He’s always going from one place to another, but he’s more than happy to take time out to chat with a friend or neighbor. Just once he’s involved with a project whether it is wood working, stocking the store, or searching the Internet one should drop by personally otherwise other attempts to contact him will be ignored.

He considers most customers coming into the store potential friends. While he will often bring a book to read after finishing h is meal at the Black Cat anyone who begins a conversation will have an interesting intelligent person to pass the time with. He has a gaze that speaks volumes, and many note he has a very old soul….

Background: Cody a nickname that he was given by friends while working at a number of Renaissance Faires over the years before being drawn to Autumn Valley several years back. Living out of his van in the beginning he eventually moved into the upper level of the local general store. After working and living at the store for several months he purchased the store that had fallen into disrepair from the Petersons a friendly older couple. Some say he paid all cash, but the Petersons simply said he was a nice young man who made a good offer. The store in one form or another had been an intuition in the town for over 100 years, and the Petersons where glad to see a young person take it over.

Long before all this though Eldridge Dillon was among the really British colonists to the region. A bright young man who was well read he was an adventurer, explorer, and rebel. He questions authority and institutions like the church, and because of the behaviors was put out to sea with his lovely companion Beatrice. Beatrice the illegitimate daughter of an English noblemen and Scottish wise woman was much like her husband. She believed in woman’s rights, religious freedom, and science which included the study of magic.

In the colonies the pair was very active in local affairs, and are even mentioned in some local histories. They were very friendly with the native people, and took part in their customs and rituals. Eldridge and Beatrice defied convention and didn’t get married, but shared a wonderful love life. Among Beatrice’s many experiments was developing a natural form of birth control, something that was very popular among the women of the colony and was traded for discretely.

Eldridge spent much of his time working on improvements to the town which he wished to model after the Roman’s urban planning, but running a very productive farm. Beatrice handled chores around home, and continued to experiment with potions and magic. Though she was very smart she was still an amateur, and one day an experiment to discover a potion that would heal an injured person while they slept went wrong. There was an explosion in the basement workshop that set the house ablaze.

Eldridge working nearby ran in to save Beatrice who he carried out to safety before the house collapsed. The fumes of the experiment over took him though and he passed out. Beatrice tried to her best to wake him, but had no idea what the magic had done to her beloved. With the lose of her notes and lab destroyed she could do little, so she placed him in a small cave on their property they had set aside for emergencies hoping he would wake while she tried to find a solution.

Sadly this was not to be though, because the paranoia of the time. It was long rumored that Beatrice had been a witch and with her husband gone and house destroyed by mysterious circumstances she stood no chance. Weeks after the explosion a crying Beatrice begged for mercy to care for her husband. Her pleas fell on deaf ears and she was hung in the town square.

Fast forward to present day some five years prior to current events Eldridge finally awoke from his slumber. He quickly crawled from the cave hoping to find his beloved nearby, but what he found shocked him. He found a very different house and barn, and a strange machine working the field. The first people he confronted were a kind pagan couple August and Willow and their three children. After a few minutes of talking to them he collapsed in stress, so the family took him in.

It took days for him to absorb all that had happen and how much he’d missed. It was even worse when Willow told him the local history which included Beatrice’s hanging at the hands of people he regarded as neighbors. Being a good Pagan family they had placed a memorial stone to Beatrice in the yard, and a sign at the road speaking about how religious persecution has no place in a civilized society.

He spent the next few years on the farm helping the couple run their organic farm. He was a babysitter to the children, and a favorite speaker at the historic society. August helped him establish a new identity through a friend in state government, and Willow introduced him around to many in the area. Eventually though the old Eldridge yearned to see more of the world, and one summer headed out with a group of friends working Renaissance Faires around the country. With only a backpack of items and a picture of Beatrice and he headed out.

He’d work as a laborer, bar back, and as mentioned earlier his knowledge of history made him useful at the Faires. Most towns he passed through remember the young interesting man who spent hours at the library. He regularly sent letters to his pagan friends, but in time he was using phones and email. Like many would think being an early colonist seeing how far America has moved forward he was very impressed at many things, and disappointed at others aspect particularly the treatment of the Indians by America.

He saved his money and lived simply and went from coast to coast in an old beat up van. Eventually he felt a drawn to Autumn Valley where he pulled up in his van, and hasn’t left since. One morning while getting his coffee he began talking to the kind elderly couple behind the counter. He was in need of a new job, and they needed the help. He got along well with the Peterson’s and it wasn’t long before they were treating him like a son (their son Danny had died in Vietnam).

When he found they were no longer able to do the work, but were financially unable to retire he did right by the couple. He paid them much more than the property was worth and helped them move into a senior community near Boston. They still exchange emails regularly, and Cody keeps up many of their traditions like a soup, sandwich, and soda for lunch for $5.

Pending approval the second of the two models on this page. I like trains an this picture happened to fit what I was looking for http://www.raggstoriches.biz/AGSsidepage.html

The General Store

When Cody first arrived on the scene the old red and white general store was in bad shape, so he spent the summer cleaning it up and repainting the building. He also cleaned up the old gas pump and sold it to a collector which allowed him to do additional repairs. Not many people are buying bate, so Cody took down the sign and turned the space into storage for extra inventory. To encourage more people come by hand have lunch he setup more red colored picnic tables, and he took down the old out houses. Now visitors to the store can use nice new clean bathrooms.

Once a customer goes through the doors they’ll find a mix of old charm and modern convenience in the hundred year old store. It has every thing you’d find in a small grocery store and hardware store with a variety of items on display. Long aisle fill up the store with the left wall dedicated to local items for sale, and special. As it’s been for the last thirty years weekly specials are stacked at the ends of the aisles. Cody doesn’t try to limit what customers can buy; so long as someone needs it it’s in stock. Office supplies, motor oil, and cough syrup are just some of the items. The best sellers and magazines are always in the racks and all you have to do is ask if you want to make special order. You can get everything from tampons to shotgun ammunition, and if make a special request you can have it delivers to your door for a little extra.

Cody kept the long counter that goes around the right side wall with classic signs hanging above and hunting trophies on the wall behind. The candy section hasn’t changed with all the glass jars in a row out of reach of little hands, but not out of sight. The register though modernized sits in the middle near the short deli counter. It provides a hungry customer with a good sandwich, soup, and French fries. There are regular specials, and whatever Cody feels like making. The Philly Cheese steak remains a favorite.

There is also a large copy machine, a fax machine, and perhaps most importantly the general store is also the town’s post office. Every resident has a box with a number, and can come in any time from 7am to 7pm six days a week. In the past Cody has run over mail and packages to some of the older or sick residences. There is a small post office section on the right when a customer comes in, and there is a table full of supplies for shipping out packages and letters. The mail truck comes by twice a day.

Cody handles most of the business himself, but does hang a help wanted sign up for anyone who wants to grab an extra shift. He’s also perfectly willing to trade inventory for goods or services, so anyone with skills can still get groceries. He does run tabs for long time residences of the town.

Well I know where to buy bread from for the deli counter in the morning...You deliver?

Wonderful...just waiting on final approval. I took to long...I have decorations to put up for the festival and all.

Come by any time you need supplies.

Jagged told me his access to internet might be sporadic for the next few weeks, hopefully he'll be able to pop by every other day or so, so he doesn't get too far behind.

Ahem...excuse me a moment *streaks across the OOC thread*

Sorry just felt like posting something in here.

hoping the text wall and story of Sigmund doesn't scare off Sophia >_<. Also apologies for any inaccurate French. Sig may know it but I myself attempted to use other resources so I hope it works out well enough hehe.

As we say in my line of work. You too can speak [insert language here] with the help of Google! :p not always the best translation unfortunately though.

LOL, I don't speak French at all. I tried learning it some years back and speak it with an Italian accent, go figure. I don't speak Italian either. I do speak very awful baby-talk Spanish.

So, generally I just put what is supposed to be a foreign language in italics.

Also in honor of Ray Bradbury, I'm posting this link to an awesome song my friend just sent to me. Since Mr. Bradbury just passed away and our thread is taking some flavor from him, I thought you all might enjoy it. (It is not work friendly.) Click here.

Yes Yes a thousands time yes haha.

In all seriousness we have lost a great author. Might have to pick up some of his books when I get the chance over the summer.
