Zoey Ripple, a recent graduate at Colorado University, was shot for 'wandering' into a couple's home and their bedroom.

Seriously? How in the fuck can you be so intoxicated, that you do not know you are in a strange house? How did Zoey get there in the first place? Where were her friends to stop her?

Granted, Ms. Ripple is not a hardened criminal with criminal intent, but how can someone be that dumb? Fortunately, for Zoey, the married couple that shot her quickly realized she was not a criminal and dialed 911 for help. The couple has not been charged, but Zoey faces felony trespassing charges.

The 911 call from the couple that shot her:

Surprising someone could walk when that drunk. You'd think she'd have passed out on the street or front lawn.

Kind of reminds of one time when I was much younger. I had spent the afternoon drinking and was walking to the bus stop to go home. I was walking through a strip mall and for some reason I decided to start knocking over tables and chairs on the sidewalk in front of a small restaurant. The manager comes out and yells at me, and I start cursing at him and then start running off yelling about something. Further on there was a police station on the way to the bus stop and I go to the door for some reason deciding to turn myself in for knocking over the tables. By this time it must have been getting late into the evening already and the station was locked up so I rang the after hours bell. A cop comes to the door and I start demanding he arrest me for knocking over tables. He told me to get lost and closed the door in my face. It was freaking hilarious in retrospect.

:D:D:D

Dude, I have really done some stupid shit when drunk. I have a long list from my drinking days. Like the time I waltzed into an IHOP wondering how Pizza Hut had changed its' decor so quickly from the day before? But I KNEW I was NOT in a Pizza Hut. Or the time I fell into a muddy ditch 2 doors down from my house and was cursing the city for putting it there. Or the time I left a group of friends to go potty, and then went to the other side of the bar to a different group (I could have sworn they left me behind) wondering wtf was in that last drink?

It's not too uncommon in the resort beach town where I live. Lots of young folks, lots of beer:rolleyes:

As a home owner, I am not in favor of pressing felony charges against the college girl. Nor do the couple who own this house want to press charges. However, I totally understand it from a prosecutor's pov.

Why the fuck wasn't their front locked? An unlocked door is an invitation to be robbed, raped and murdered. Zoey was definitely wrong for walking into their house, and they had a right to shoot her, but if they had locked their door she would have either knocked on it, or left and would not have been shot.

Not everyone lives in fear or in areas where doors need to be locked. Putting blame on people for not locking their door is stupid even for you.

My mom told me years and years ago about a time when they were living in a subdivision where all the houses were identical and a drunk guy started coming in, insisting it was his house. This was back in the early 60's.
She said it was more funny than anything because he was really really really drunk.

When I was a kid in the 70s, this drunk old man started pounding on the door and screaming that we let him in. My dad confronted him and learned the old man had lived there many years before.

The funniest thing I remember about that night was my dad telling him,"If you lived in this house, I can understand why you are drunk.":D

Murders happen in Beverly Hills too. What's stupid is taking a chance with the lives of your family. You don't have to live in a poor neighborhod to be robbed, or raped, or have someone break in. A locked door may not stop everyone but it would hae prevented this tragedy.

You can leave your door open if you want. If you then have to shoot some innocent drunk for walking into your house, I wont feel sorry for you especially when they sue you for their injuries. A locked door is a safety measure.

I didn't say anything about rich or poor. Not everyone lives in areas where it's a concern. And what tragedy? There isn't one.
Nobody is suing anybody, that's just paranoid bullshit.

Name one place where crime is not a concern. Nowhere in the US.

The incident took place at
Police say Ripple entered the bedroom of a house at 425 College Ave. at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday. The screen door was closed, but unlocked.
So why wasn't the door locked, especially when
According to a 1999 online article in Psychiatric News, Orion [The homeowner]was stalked for at least a decade by a schizophrenic woman she treated briefly at an Arizona hospital. The article said the woman even followed her to Colorado and moved into the same Boulder neighborhood

As for a lawsuit being paranoid, wait a few weeks. I guarantee Zoey and/or her family will sue the homeowners and win. How do I know this, simple
The house, which county records show was bought for $1.7 million in 2004 and is listed for sale at $2.75 million
Presumably one of those neighborhoods where crime is not a concern.

I truly feel sorry or you when you think it's not tragic that a 70 year old man shot a 21 year old girl for making a mistake and walking into his house while drunk.

There is no real crime where I live. We don't even have police anymore. I don't lock doors and many of my neighbors don't. Cars are left unlocked routinely. No theft, no burglary, certainly no shootings or assault or murder. Our crimes are drunk driving, domestic abuse and low level drugs.
This is common for the whole area not just my town.
She's being charged with a felony. How is she going to win a lawsuit? Don't be stupid.
And I don't see what's tragic. If anything she learned a valuable lesson.
No, I don't think anything is tragic.

OMG, are you serious? If you do something bad and something bad happens to you ITS YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT. Drinking may be legal but if you choose to do it you are entirely responsible if something bad happens to you. Fortunately no one but the drunk was harmed in this case.

That the deal. We allow people to do alot things that they shouldn't be doing, but they have to take responsibility when something happens. Putting an intoxicating substance into one's body to derive pleasure is a choice and the person doing it bares complete responsibility if something is to happen.

I feel zero sympathy if someone falls off a balcony when drunk, gets an STD from promiscious sex, dies in a recreational parachuting accident. They made the behavioral choice and have to live (or die) with the consequences, assuming hopefully they don't harm anyone else.

And this goes for me as well if I choose to do a dangerous or morally questionable recreational activity.

Since you claim there are no real crimes I must assume you consider wife beating manslaughter/reckless endangerment as fake crimes, not worthy of atttention? Besides we all know that domestic violence is not asault and never leads to murder.

I never said she would win a lawsuit. I said there would be a lawsuit. Though I wouldn't be surprised if she did win. It has happened before, criminals sue their victims while in prison and win.

Click here to see a list of people who are suing the victime of crimes they committed.

Here are a few highlights

Apparently in Mount Clemens, Mich., crime does pay, especially if the people you rob fight back and beat you to a pulp. The owner of Nick’s Party Stop on Cass Avenue in Clinton Township and several people connected to his store are being sued by a man who was shot while robbing the store. The lawsuit, filed by Scott Thomas Zielinski from his cell in a Michigan prison, was assigned to Macomb County Circuit Judge David Viviano. John Acho, owner of the store and one of the people sued, said his customers are mad that an armed robber is allowed to file a lawsuit after he threatened the store’s employees with a knife.

Convicted burglar Kurt Prochaska is proceeding with his lawsuit against the doctor who shot him after he broke into the doctor's house. On Tuesday, Judge James Welker scheduled a jury trial to start March 31, 2008. Both sides anticipated a trial of three to four days. Prochaska, 39, was sentenced in March to eight years in prison and four years of extended supervision for burglary and felony criminal damage for breaking into Michael Rainiero's home on Linden Avenue on Halloween night 2005.

The burglar who was injured by Tony Martin after breaking into his home is to sue the farmer for £15,000 compensation for loss of earnings, it emerged yesterday. The man, who was shot in the raid in Norfolk, is seeking the money because he claims he cannot find work, enjoy sex, or pursue his martial arts hobby.

A man is suing an auto-parts store for assault and battery after he attempted
to hold up the business and employees responded by beating him with a metal pipe. Dana Buckman, 46, walked into an auto shop brandishing a semiautomatic pistol
last summer, only to have it turned on him by two AutoZone employees, police said.

If you can't see the tragedy in a 21 year old being sht by a 70 year old man then you are in need of serious help.

Huh, looks like you said it. Weird.

And who is 70?

"Woman who drove drunk gets $300,000". An Ontario woman who got drunk at an office party and crashed her car has successfully sued her employer for allowing her to drive -- even though her company offered a cab ride or accommodation if she gave up her keys.

A jury awarded $92 million Thursday to a plaintiff who sued the city after a police officer's bullet left him paralyzed five years ago. The defense claimed that Dugan - who was never charged criminally and is still on the force - only fired after Rodriguez refused to freeze and pointed his gun at the officer. A civilian witness backed the officer's version of the 1995 incident, Connolly said.

Threo Items I found in a quick search. I'm sure there are lots more.

Yes, those are exactly the same as this case.

Also convenient how you ignore being called out as a liar. Liar.

Where did I lie? SHow me once where I said she would win.

I said that criminals sue their victims and win. I showed 3 cases where this happened. and yet you just call me a liar. Nice how you ignore and rearrange facts to suit your purposes.

A drunk woman suing the people who got her drunk is not someone suing their victim.
A guy suing a cop who shot him is not suing his victim.
