The 'Julia' Backlash: Because Americans Like to Pretend They Don't Need Government

There's no mention of a man ever being in Julia's life.

I suppose she could be a nun or something.

The black man is "handling" the white man's women, something that the white man will not tolerate.

 Of course he will. This ain't 1865. It ain't even 1965. This is an era where interracial porn is a thriving niche, and I'm sure there are a lot of white men -- some, here -- who dig black male/white female action. (I'm not into it myself, different strokes.)

The SNAP/Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, just announced that it is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of free meals and food stamps ever.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us to "Please Do Not Feed The Animals." This is because the animals may grow dependent on handouts and not learn to take care of themselves.

Hummm...

Don't expect any of our friends here on this thread to catch the joke, friend. Sadly, we are alone in that respect. I like them, but they are blind to what is clear enough to us. :(

Personally, I dig interracial porn rather well, though it's more about a white guy and black/Hispanic/Asian female or two or three. ;)

Oh, I've caught it before. It's always hilarious when you compare people in need to animals.

My family qualified for free and reduced lunches when I was a child, and my parents would have been in serious trouble without them. I also took advantage of student loans to help pay for my college education. I have since repaid those loans in full, and have never taken a red cent in assistance as an adult. I've been fortunate, though, and the last thing in the world I would ever do is dehumanize anyone who needs assistance to feed their kids.

It's not that people don't get the joke... it just isn't fucking funny in the first place.

That's not what I took his comment to mean. It was the contradiction between the two inherently oxymoronic attitudes from the same government. That was the point. If I offended you personally, that wasn't my intent.

I interpreted his remark one way, you another. To each their own.

This a thousand times.

There is no dissonance or oxymoronicity in the same government distributing food stamps to humans, and warning hikers not to feed the bears. Both are good ideas. Humans are one thing, and bears are another.

Granted, learned helplessness is real, but the solution is not as drastic as ending all assistance. Granted, I don't expect the anarchist to agree, since you trust the private sector with all things, including charity. But I'm no anarchist and have no ideological compulsion to advocate such extreme measures.
