Question About Submission Process

I have a question about the submission process that I haven't seen covered anywhere. I'm not even sure this is the right forum area but I figured editors would know the answer...

I submitted a story two days ago and have been coming back to see if it's been "approved" each day to find that it hasn't been approved or rejected, but it stuck in "pending" status.

This isn't a complaint and I don't want to be impatient here but can't find any information on how long it usually takes for a story to get approved or what happens "behind the scenes" on the site during the approval process. The submissions page does say that over 50 people have viewed the story, so it looks like *someone* if reading it, I just don't know who, why, when, or what that means.

If there a FAQ or sticky that contains this information? Or can someone else explain what I should expect? Is there something else I need to do to complete the submission process that I've perhaps missed?

Thanks for any information.

You can check the guidelines on the FAQ page.

My most recent submission took about five days to post. That varies and can be longer if there's a contest at the time you submit something. Contest entries post faster, taking about a day, I believe.

The views before the story posts are a glitch and mean little to nothing.

If your story is in the pending status, you have a few options.

  • You can check the page each hour and lose patience.
  • You can head over to the Author's Hangout and enjoy a thread or two.
Or . . .
  • You can start that next story you have floating around in your head. :D

Hope this helps.

Submissions have been taking six days to post in recent months--at least that's what I've been experiencing.

Thanks for the quick replies! I guess I missed that part of the FAQ somehow. I'll take a chill pill and wait a few more days.

Thanks!

Borrowed from snooper:

You might want to switch on your Private Messages. Go to User CP (top left of this page) then click on Edit Options (in the left hand column) and then tick Enable Private Messaging in the second box down. Make sure that the next box down (Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators) is NOT ticked. Finally click Save Changes at the bottom of that page.

Also, new submissions tend to go up in bunches between 3 am and 9 am, EDT. If your story hasn't gone up by noon, it probably isn't going up today.

That being said, my last story went up sometime between noon and 3 pm, but in my nearly 3 years on this site, that was the only time I ever noticed new submissions posting outside the 3-9 am window.

My last one went up a few minutes after midnight. They always have.

Mine rarely go up before 3 a.m., Eastern Time, and those that go up at midnight or shortly after (only a handful) invariably get pulled back shortly to come back up in a longer list after 3 a.m. (I usually go to bed at 3 a.m., so I'm checking at that time when I expect one of mine to go up.)

Mine seem to be around the 6am or so est. Occasionally though I have been unlucky and its gone up after 10.

I haven't submitted anything since Jan. and was thinking of putting something up this week, is it really up to six days?

I thought I saw people posting it was back towards the old standard of three again.

We'll see how long it takes for the one I submitted today. The four before that took six days each, yes--up from a uniform three days before last Christmas.

I like to try for Friday starts, they seem to be good for me so I used to submit on Tuesday nights (then post the story;))

Now I guess I'll try putting it in Saturday night. I try to avoid weekend starts.

Once I submit a story, I just keep working on another story. It takes my mind off of waiting for the current story to be posted.

Oh how I miss MathGirl!

To quote some of her more famous responses to this question:
"Usually three to five days. Up to a week if the editor's bleeding piles are acting up."
"Usually three to five days. May take up to a week if the story contains sex with sheep or renting of pigs."
" Usually three to five days. Sometimes as long as a week if the editor is out chasing cats again."
"Usually three to five days. Sometimes up to a week if the editor has committed ritual sepuku."

And to show she won't mind:
" I would be SO pleased if someone liked my stuff enough to steal it."

Three days to post for my most recent story, so maybe the system is returning to normal.

Patience is a virtue? You got that right

I am a new writer to Literotica on other writers' recommendations. I had my first chapter on my first story posted on 22 May, then got chapter two rejected re the punctuation police on my case. Resubmitted with changes/editing last week, kept getting pending, pending, pending, so submitted chapter two again with some other changes, knowing I'd go back to the end of the queue, which I accepted, but nearly four days in and I am still waiting for that re-submission of chapter two to go on.

I now am about to submit chapter three but it's frustrating having to wait so long, especially as I am getting email feedback asking me when the next chapter will be coming. I am doing what I can, ie, updating on my bio, and continuing to write the other chapters, but it hasn't been the greatest start.

Does anyone else out there get frustrated by this kind of thing?

I normally find it takes 3 - 5 days after submission for my story to appeear. If I remember correctly, the longest has been a week.
