So, every time I try to write basic smut I end up getting an attack of plot, and what started off as a one-off piece about a sexual encounter between two strangers has evolved into a multi-part series about a same-sex long-distance relationship. The first three chapters have all been obviously "Lesbian Sex".

But I think one of the chapters coming up isn't going to have any sex in it. It'll still be about that relationship, but for various reasons nobody's getting lucky that chapter.

Do I post that under "Non-Erotic" because that one chapter has no sex? Or "Lesbian Sex" because it's part of a larger story about that theme (and where anybody who read the previous chapters would expect to find it?)

No. If you've been posting the story under a particular category then I think you should post the next chapter in the same category. The chapter is a part of the same story, and I can't see a reason to deviate as long as you're going to be going back to the same subject area.

Most of the stories I had posted at Lit. a while back had chapters without any sexual content. Although, most of those stories did skip around from category to category as the story developed. But that was because I intentionally stay away from writing stories focused on a particular practice/fetish/orientation, and instead concentrate on writing more general literary stories.

I ended up posting many of my non-sexual chapters under Romance, as those chapters tended to focus on the growing of the relationship between the characters.

In this case Lesbian trumps non-erotic.

There is a pecking order of categories but my brain isn't awake yet. Darknicad had a list up at one time but I seem to have lost it.

I've put chapters and even stories in a series in different chapter and I've also put them all in one cat. Think about the squieg factor for the readers.

I'd advise keeping it in the same category. I suppose Romance is a little different, but I write those and will go two or more chapters at a time without sex, and no one complains. Same with nonhuman. Generally, though, I think as long as it's all part of the same overall story, no one will mind.

Cool, thanks all. Sounds like my instincts were right :)
