Literotica Writers Conference?

I had a dream last night that I was at a Literotica Writers Conference. (...and you were all there, like I was Dorothy in a very kinky Oz.) I usually attend one or two writers conferences a year, and I'm in the process of planning a vacation, so that's probably where this dream came from. But I remembered it when I woke up, and I was wondering if Lit hosts a writers conference? I'm relatively new to Lit, but I haven't heard anything about an upcoming conference or anything in the past. There are plenty of talented writers here to lead the workshops. I think it would be a success. In my dream, there were breakout sessions (which could have been inspired by a recent visit to a club that had BDSM demonstrations). I know writers conferences are hot right now, and I think a Lit writers conference has lots of potential.

There were gatherings in the past - The Litogethers in Chicago, but I think the last one was in 2010. Don't seem to have anyone to host it. There's been a few threads on it, Emily; if I find them, I'll post them to you.

We've had a few Litogethers over the years but no writers conferences that I know of.

And yes, if the Litogethers were any indication, a writers conference from this bunch would be kinky indeed.

Welcome to the AH by the way.

Thank you, Tio. Obviously I have no idea what the gatherings were like, but in my dream, this was very well organized. I was holding a schedule with a list of topics and the writer presenters who were leading each workshop. It was sexy and fun, but also very professional with lots of substance. I'm sure hosting this would be a lot of work, but there's also big profit potential, I think.

Thank you, TxRad. :) I'm now curious about your Litogethers, but I think the writers conference I have in mind would be a little (if not a lot) different. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?

From what I know, I wouldn't expect 'organization' to have been the keyword to the Litogethers. Most people here accept the dictum that "you should write what you know;" I've been told most of the workshops were directed towards gaining experiential knowledge to support solid and accurate writing.:D

LOL! Nice, Tio. Yeah, that's not exactly what I had in mind. This conference would focus on solid topics concerning writing or editing or publishing erotica. There could even be a workshop that would take a new writer through publishing his or her first story on Lit. You know, like a real writers conference. All the same sorts of topics, but with a Lit twist. :)

...although, there were some after-hours hotel room "collaborations" in my dream that I was choosing to withhold. ;)

I understand, Emily, but I think for Litsters you may have the during- and after- hours reversed.;)

I can't write worth crap. But I'd still go to a Lit writer's conference if only to give Emily a personal demonstration of my superb penmanship.

I've been to dozens of conferences and seminars and trainings (mostly with my job, but a few writers conferences as well), and there are similar components- a nice venue, keynote speaker, workshop leaders/teachers, vendor booths (sponsors), food... :) I know there are some writers here who have published books, and they could set up at tables to sell signed copies of their books and meet with readers, etc. There's usually a reception, there could be live music and poetry readings. It could be awesome!

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one, I hope." ;)

I went to the last two Litogethers. Did some sight-seeing in Chicago. Ate and drank too much. Got hugged and my lap sat on but I must broadcast an aura of hyper-vasopressin so no one (well almost no one) hit on me. Probably just as well. I'm actually a lot shyer than I ever thought.

Litogether hugs are world famous and a must for all Litsters everywhere. And lap sitting is always the case as there always seems to be too few chairs. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Food and drink are two other things that seem to be in large supplies at Litogethers.

At the two here in Texas I attended, I think we even discussed writing a time or two.

I would like to host them...

But I have no money.

And no house.

And I can't buy booze.

:(

Then there was the UK Bournemouth Litogether that followed their kilted Scotsman to a Gay night club.

Who knew that Bournemouth could be so dissipated?

Who doesn't love a kilted Scotsman? ;) I think I understand the gist of a "Litogether" now. You guys have done a wonderful job of explaining these. Thank you.

So, there have not been any Lit writers conferences. Got it. Is there any reason we couldn't create the first one? (I mean the collective "we" or the "we" in charge around here, the "he" or "she" or "they" perhaps? You know, Them. ...Someone is in charge around here, right?)

Laurel is in charge of the stories and forums and Manu is in charge of the computers. As for the rest, it is utter bedlam. The inmates run the asylum as far as the AH is concerned..

Gotcha! Thanks for showing me the ropes, TxRad. :)

Funny how things change as time goes by. The idea of a litogether if I were the me of ten years ago would be pretty exciting.

But I'm married now and it wouldn't be any fun just a tease. For all my talk I'm painfully monogamous.

To bad because I could see myself trying to corrupt a certain student from Minnesota.;)

Something was just brought to my attention, that should have been an obvious consideration, but which I completely missed. That perhaps the writers, and aspiring writers, of erotica would like to maintain their anonymity. In which case, a writers conference may not make lots of sense.

We're like the Justice League. We keep our identities secret from the general public, but we can share them with each other.

I guess it depends who you are and your career.

I figured we would just walk around with name tags with our lit handles, you could divulge more if you chose, but don't have to.

Actually not sure if this is a "lit urban legend" but wasn't there an author here who was a school teacher and she got outed for writing here?

Name tags with our lit handles is an excellent idea (or none at all, I suppose). :)

I'd really like to teach some sort of writing workshop or a few panels, but I'm not up for traveling. Taking into account the anonymity issue, perhaps an online event might be a solution?
