I almost took the day last Friday to drive to the comic convention in Chicago...
but the "wind left my sails" and I gave it up.

Probably for the best...gas, ticket and parking would have added up, and if I had purchased anything...!

Makes me wonder...if I had managed to go a year ago... would anything really be different now.

I suppose not.

I went to Gen Con once, Indianapolis. wow, there were lots of interesting people there. and man, the artists' stuff to see! so cool.

I don't want to dredge up bad memories, but I can relate to the "banned" artist experience a bit. I can't display any of my art at craft shows here in the Bible Belt. Most take offense even at merfolk whose hindquarters and breasts are exposed. Sheesh.

Yes. Though I forget the details now. A Litster (the woman) The Man... couldn't say if that was part of the request or my embellishment.

My wife had a problem with all the misogynistic trends, and my own naked drawings. The con did not ban me.

I have no problem if the con has certain standards, if they are clear. The did. and I kept anything that might be "offensive" or "corrupting" to impressionable or sensitive minds in the back of the folio.

Personally, I have issues with so much violence that is portrayed, but that is my issue, and would not show any of that. That is not to say I never draw anything that is forceful, because I do.

Yeh. My hubby is embarrassed/ashamed of the stuff I create too. And some of it is really beautiful. But I get flak like "do floggers and paddles belong in a Christian home?" Doesn't matter that it's not intended to hurt anyone. They are fantasy displays.



Anyway, I am glad you find support and appreciation here. Thanks for sharing.

I am ok with other people's sensitivities, and have no desire to "put it their faces".
If she was who I thought I had married, I'd hang some of the stuff in the bedroom, but not likely in the living room.

I actually like (to a degree) that some stuff is "taboo", in that it becomes (or stays) somewhat more "special".

I was a bit disappointed that I could not hang any nudes at a show I had at a coffee shop, but I also understand...especially in that they are a COFFEE shop and not a gallery.

(though they have had some pretty horrendous still life paintings hung, at times, which I found offensive )
