I was at a restaurant and saw a 60-something homeless Vietnam veteran talking to people who weren't there and mumbling to himself something about "Vietnam and psychiatry".

After he left the restaurant, he hugged a tree that was outside and continued talking to himself.

He made quite a spectacle of himself, I was compelled to record his insane ramblings with my smartphone but chose not to.

I believe this is the first time I've seen a full-blown paranoid schizophrenic out in public.

Are there a lot of Vietnam veterans who are schizophrenics?

It was incredible! Clearly he was totally insane, I wanted to cry.

You should have shook his hand.

He served your country and protected you from... nobody.

next time you see him pretend that you're trying to read his mind and whisper a lot while staring at him. it'll be fun. trust me.

Reminds me of a song. Was the tree an old oak tree with a yellow ribbon tied around it? Did he get on a bus?

You actually should talk to the guy.

Sometimes the ones some see as crazy, aren't always the crazy ones.

Except with you, you're delusional and insane.
