None of this is new, at least not to anyone remotely conscious and engaged in society on even the most basic level. But, what I found interesting was that she's asking why these conversations are happening in the first place, what that means for both men (and boys) and women (and girls); and if the occurrence is inevitable, she wants the context changed from a misogynistic to a feminist construct.

But, what I found interesting was that she's asking why these conversations are happening in the first place, what that means for both men (and boys) and women (and girls); and if the occurrence is inevitable, she wants the context changed from a misogynistic to a feminist construct.

While I applaud her for standing up for herself and for at least mentioning that this happens to boys/men as well, there is nothing that discounts her message quite as much as the line "she wants the context changed from a misogynistic to a feminist construct" IMO.

Why not make the conversation about people and judging based on looks instead of actions, values or worth? She could just as easily have blamed it on our capitalist society as patriarchy. She's using men as an excuse and it minimizes the impact she could have.

I'm a huge Ashley Judd fan, but I'll take your observation one step further. "Society" did not morph into a an entity that values physical appearance without the aid and encouragement of the entertainment industry she chose as a profession. Nor did she enter it or seek to remain on the path of "character actor" as many lesser beauties often do.

She is an established "leading lady," and leading ladies and leading men bring a little something extra to the roles they play. That extra something is a face or body that is pleasant to look at. Harrison Ford wouldn't have gotten cast as Indiana Jones if he looked like Gerald Ford.

A second truism about Hollywood is that it feeds on gossip. Many times actors are the victim of this tawdry machine, but neither are they above using it to their advantage in contract disputes or in one-on-one cat fights with rival actors or the arresting officer who pulled them over for a DUI or soliciting a hooker.

I luvs ya Ash. Go BIG Blue! No starlet knows basketball better than you do. But this is what we both know is a "player control foul." "Charging," if you will. No basket and possession goes over to the defenders.
