Claims that: "This is what women in superhero comics should be"

Devoted to images that epitomize the positive way women in superhero comics should be portrayed. Also thoughts about what the positive portrayal of women should entail.

I'm liking it!

There is a link if anyone has an addition.

I'm surprised you're not complaining that they are all built like brick shit houses and generally dress very revealing which means they are still being sexually objectified by the nerds and the whacko's that write stories about Catwoman being gang raped or having lesbian sex with power woman over in the celebrities section.

I prefer the Girl Genius version, myself. Of course, if you want physicality, there's always Mama Gkicka.
yeah I like the Girl Genius model quite a lot myself. :rose:

There's SO MUCH to be said for indie visionaries. I fear that that collection will be pretty small if they collect only from the big publishers...

There's some good ones in there ( once you can find them ) Like the Kitty Pryde panels :D

The design of that page is a horror show, though. It's like "Where's Waldo" without knowing who Waldo is or what he looks like.

I enjoy a sexy/strong woman superhero.

(no high heels please....mostly;) heels are sillier than capes)

because it is fantasy... hot costumes are in order.

Bird of Prey#6 cover puts me in mind of your tentacled "heroine", Stella.

But, I fear, I cannot see the point of the exercise.
Is it to put a female human in the kind of superior position as, say, Wonder-woman or Super-girl ?.
Why are they always drawn so as to look so "Hollywood" in form & figure (I'm not complaining, you understand) ?

I suspect I have missed an important point, here, but I'm darned if I can get it!

Well, Handley that's what a SUPERhero is. Someone more powerful in some fashion than the regular human being. More humanly-powered heroes are called-- heroes. :)

Superheroes, male or female, tend to look glamorous and buff and half-naked because they are drawn by and for people who buy into that esthetic. In fact-- Hollywood superheroes look like that because they are based on comic book esthetics.

The fact that there are so few female super heroes, and they are so much more naked than male ones is a topic of discussion in the industry. I'm not going to get into it, but I'm sure you can imagine. I like this link because it's nothing more than positive comment on what the blogger perceives to be positive images and plot points.

And so the question ever rises, are most superheroes male because readers are male or are most readers male because most superheroes are male? If there were more female superheroes would more females read superhero comix or must all female superheroes display fanservice because the readers are mostly male? I'm sure glad I'm not in the industry.

Comics have traditionally been aimed at boys. Superheroes are fantasy aspirational material. The women (super or not) fantasy aspirational/masturbatory material.

Comics as a medium, because boys (generally) tend to be more visual. (and are largely idiots :D )

As more women become involved/interested (as writers, illustrators and readers) it will evolve.

Much like small changes in the porn industry

yes, yes, yes, and jeezuzfuck I wish the publishers would stop making that assumption.

By the way, when you are speaking of human beings categorized by sex but by nothing more specific, the terms are "men" and "women." :p

Oh, sorry. Sometimes I get species-confused.

Maybe not in this case. As comics can (and often do) have an audience of boys and girls... as well as men and women. :p

Web comics have been portraying female superheroes in a so-called 'positive light' for many years; beautiful, powerful, aggressive, intelligent and human. ;)

true.

(for me, women superheroes will always be sexual fantasy material :D which includes being: beautiful, powerful, intelligent and some are human)

My favorite female character in comics was the Invisible Woman from fantastic four.

She originally started out as the 'invisible girl' and she was one of the only superhero women to ever evolve. She was the first major female character for marvel, and she is considered the mother of marvel comics. She was also the only member of the fantastic four who's powers kept evolving, and it was even hinted in the original series that she might be the strongest of them all.

A bit more feminist then brass booby-plates.
