I thought she looked better a little chubby. Sorry to see her network tank. She seems like a very nice lesbian.

Drug market, sub market,
Sometimes I wonder why I ever got in
Blood market, love market,
Sometimes I wonder why they need me at all!

Sometimes I wonder if they need me at all!!

I like the music part just fine. It's when they start singing that they lose me.

I don't like Operas in languages I don't understand. I mean, I've been forced to sing them, but I'd much rather do an English piece, because I listen to music for the lyrics. I don't have a whole lot of musical talent, probably because I can't appreciate music the same way I can the written word or visual art. I look at the paper and see 5 lines and dots. I don't hear anything. I've had musical people tell me that they look at the page and hear the music. But I can sing like a motherfucker. I'd rather go into a reprise from Repo or Phantom then take on Carmello or any of that crap- not because it's not good, but because I don't know if it's good or not. I don't know what the fuck I'm saying. I had friends who didn't speak German and listened to Rhamstein (sp?) and I thought that was stupid as hell to. OR J-pop if you don't speak Japanese, it's downright baka.

Opera gloves have fringes?

I have those same gloves without the fringes. And I have another pair like them in white that I stole from a friend a million years ago to use in a cosplay... I think she's accepted by now that she's not getting them back.

I am known to put on Maria Callas' greatest hits when dusting in my housecoat.

Casta Diva, che inargenti
queste sacre antiche piante....

Maybe if C*A*T*S was in Italian...

;) ;)

Is CATS technically an Opera? I don't remember any dialogue in CATS, but I haven't seen it in a looooooooooong time. That was one of my mom's favorite plays. As a Redneck, her obsession with theater and limited culture led to an unhealthy obsession with ALW. But when I was little, I fucking loved that thing. I liked Mistopholes.

C*A*T*S was the longest two weeks of my life; I hated every minute of it.

I liked Les Mis though.

They call them musicals now, but in a hunnert years, who knows?

I have attended the Beijing Opera.

In the middle, between the fight scenes, there was some serious cat screeching...

A musical has dialogue, an Opera doesn't. An Opera is done entirely on song and in perfect tempo, so even the parts that seem like they should be spoken are done melodically. That's Why Repo is an Opera, and Phantom is an Opera (though the movie was a musical) but say, Rent, is a musical. I couldn't remember which one CATS was.

Were you in a production of CATS? I live in the STYX, when I lived in Lex, I went to touring productions all the time... Now, I have nothing.

Cats is to opera as Etch-a-Sketch is to oil portraits.

Srsly?

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.
Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.
Bin gar keine Russin, stamm’ aus Litauen, echt deutsch.
And when we were children, staying at the archduke’s,
My cousin’s, he took me out on a sled,
And I was frightened. He said, Marie,
Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.
In the mountains, there you feel free.
I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

I worked as security in the entertainment industry for over 20 years.

Jesus Christ Byron.

SUPERSTAR!

Opera is a form of stagecraft developed to overcome the technical challenge of large audiences and bad acoustics. Speaking the lines of a drama didn't reach the far reaches of the auditorium, and screaming them just got silly.

Putting notes to everything and utilizing the more enjoyable musical equivalence of screaming, was the most passable compromise.

It's still a sub optimal practice, if you ask me. Like competetive walking.

Actual operatic songs however, can be stellar.
