Justice for Trayvon??

It's always painful to take on the myths and ideological narratives of the left. The pundits of the liberal (excuse me, "progressive") media make a pretense of listening to reason, but when their views are challenged, they become abusive. You are not honestly trying to find the truth; you are making up data, actually lying. If you are skeptical about anthropogenic global climate change, you're not just a skeptic—you're a denier (as in Holocaust denier). And if you disagree with the standard left-wing narrative about the financial crisis, even if you can support your position with data, you are using the "Big Lie" technique (again, repulsively invoking the likes of Goebbels). This attitude and way of dealing with disagreement should have no place in our political system, but seems to have become the stock in trade of the most respected spokesmen of the left.

Figures. Big Sis Warned Us About Suspicious Men in Hoodies!

It figures.

Trayvon Martin was reportedly targeted by community watchman George Zimmerman because he was wearing a hoodie.

So how did Zimmerman ever get the idea that someone in a hoodie might be suspicious?

From the Obama Administration, of course.

Last March Homeland Security released the controversial video, “If You See Something, Say Something (TM)”.

In the video the bad guys planting bombs… wear hoodies.

So just to cut through the smoke here for a minute - As far as I can tell no laws were broken. The shooter believed his life was in danger and under current law he had the right to act in self defense up to and including shooting the other man.

Is that pretty much generally agreed upon?

would we be on page 19 if that were "generally agreed upon" ?

I think the race baiting / race deniers are why we have 19 pages. Arguing if the shooter "felt" like he was in danger because the other guy was black with a hoodie seems like something that can never be known. I am just hearing a lot of calls for the arrest of Zimmerman and as far as I can tell the law is on his side here.

What does "George Zimmerman Wanted To Be A Cop" or "Trayvon Martin Was Suspended From His Miami-area High School" have to do with anything?

I think is is a much better synopsis:
NYT, 4/1/2012

That's a good link too.

I notice your link contains the same information about Martin's school suspension and Zimmerman's police fetish.

Nope...Your mind seems to be made up, so it would be tantamount to beating my head against the wall.

Much easier to call stuff you don't agree with "factual errors" then to actually disprove them with, y'know, actual facts.

That's how I knew you were all hat and no cattle.

As far as I can tell .. there are few facts in this case that anyone can actually agree on. The police refuse to divulge any information to the press to clear up misconceptions/misinformation. At this point, we dont know if they even did an autopsy on trayvon or photographed Zimmermans injuries.

There's no shortage of arrests and trials in this country that involve an armed person shooting an unarmed person. Are we going to start seeing "self-defense" used as a strategy in every one of them? The prisons are going to empty out pretty fast in that case.

I don't get it...isn't race denial a good thing?

The law doesn't give a fuck what color someone is. The killing was either justified and legal or it wasn't as determined by the evidence right?

Unfortunately the downside to using evidence instead of public out cry as the standard for determining prosecution has it's down side. The down side is that even in high profile racial killings such as this one, no matter how guilty you know a mother fucker is....if he/she dose it right, and the empirical evidence gathered supports his story he will get away with murder. Ain't the first time and won't be the last.

I suppose in the 15 (or 17) states that have "Stand your ground" laws that is exactly what is happening.

If you have a couple of minutes listen to the 9-1-1 call by Joe Horn in Texas. It is pretty interesting. Mr. Horn has an itchy trigger finger if you ask me.
