yes, i knew it was there. yes i've visited it, and dropped a few comments from time to time. it's not on my regular schedule, but if i know someone whose art i already enjoy (like dolf - there she is again, in all her damned tiaraness) has posted new work, then i'll likely go take a look. the kind of artwork i tend to enjoy here is erotic rather than simply renderings of genitalia.

Much like "art", it seems that "erotic" is in the eye (or mind) of the beholder.

I can find "renderings of genitalia" very erotic. IF the rendering has some skill/mastery.

Whereas I am greatly turned off by dolf's work, finding it to be neither erotic or even sensuous and not skillfully executed. (only my opinion)

That is not to say that I have not found subtle works to be erotic, I have.

These distinctions/comparisons also apply to the stories on LIT. Certain phrases or subjects or scenarios can be highly charged erotic bits for some and immediate turn offs for others.

I'd venture that in writing and in visuals that a certain level of mastery can only help.

Absolutely, Throbbs. Because-- a certain mastery of the craft can infuse an image with umm... syntax, i guess, to borrow from writing-- and implication. It's like poetry.

And the drawing that you posted of a dick sticking in a pussy? Kinda does eet for mee. But I think that;s because of the pubes, which prove that there are bodies attached to the junk with nervous systems that are going to go haywire in the most delicious ways in a few minutes time

Because that's really what it's about!

Here's a tumblr that I like: http://soporsensuality.tumblr.com/archive

M/M, F/F. F/M/F/M, F/F/M/M and just generally Mmmm, also size differences and xenosexual genitalia-- thing is, the genitals are attached to the xenos and the xenos personalities and faces.

pulling in an alternate view to my own>
nope.

for me it's just meh - not especially well-rendered, certainly not visually exciting, and doesn't begin to get my attention whoever drew it because it doesn't move beyond anything 2-D. but that's only my taste - others might find it a thing of ... beauty.

That's a fair review- I agree.
...

It would be interesting to do some comparatives.

I have often observed that in our culture (U.S.) that pencil renderings are given lesser "Artistic" status than paintings. And there also seems to be 2 "camps" (generalization, of course) of those who are impressed by realism and thos ewho are impressed by impressionism.

BTW, this is not one of my favorites, though I do like it on several levels.
is this more "erotic" because it is painted?>

If it is more erotic, which i have my doubts personally-- it's because it's more evocative less focussed, and we in this country have a hard time looking straight at genitals. We don't want to see the hair follicles-- we want to imagine something more perfect. We are uncomfortable with the ruffled edges of the inner labia, because to us that looks like wounds, or something messy and undesirable. We prefer our images with straight hard edges or perfectly controlled fades, and nothing should be left to chance. Plus we've become the biggest control freaks of all time. The painting leaves nearly everything to the imagination, and that's where we like everything to be.

Plus there's a sense of movement in the painting like she's bumping her pussy upwards to get to my hand.

Sounds plausible Stella.

It just looks crude to me, not because of subject but execution.

Yeah, I can imagine! :D

I don't know why we give Crude execution so much leeway. culturally speaking. It lets a lot of people off the hook IMO.

Indeed.

Sometimes it is just plain ol' ignorance... the whole "I can't draw a stick figure" perspective. Therefore anything beyond stick figure is amazing. The mystery and alchemy of painting.......OOoOoOooo

Other times it's plain ol' sucking up.

And of course there is personal preference.

You said it! Crude execution is bad! All my years and I still can't draw fingers!:cattail:

Just popping in out of curiosity really. I know little about art (but I know what like boom, boom), but this explanation I can fully comprehend.
In a self-reflective moment, I believe you are absolutely right.

Well I can't talk for anybody else but in general I don't depict just the genitals when drawing erotica: for me it's the whole picture that makes something arousing. When seeing a woman naked and in a seductive pose, it's not just her vagina but her hips, the shape of her waist, the way her breasts are shaped and most importantly, the look in her eyes that does it for me.

Of course with me drawing erotic comics which include multiple panel pages I do have some pictures of the genitalia in close up but that's always because if being a part of a story. I haven't done a one panel picture that just shows a pussy and nothing else, always the complete woman.

This scene from my "brushed off" story is a good example of that, here the heroine is pleasuring herself using paint brushes, we first see her teasing her nipple, then we see her using a brush in her pussy, then we see her flustered and blushing face before we see her in full and her look of pure joy as she has her orgasm. That scene wouldn't have been as good if I just shown her sticking that brush up her pussy and nothing else.
