Exactly. At the time I had the really sick pet, I'd ask myself "do I want to spend the money on x or would I rather have my pet be taken care of at the vet?" In every case when I asked myself that question, the pet won over all other items I could have spent the money on. My answer was that I always wanted the pet more than anything else so I spent accordingly.
