Today's little peek into the world of a library lady:

I bought an assortment of puppy dog ears on headbands which the first graders and I have all enjoyed wearing while I read The Puppy Sister. After we're finished with that afternoon's chapter, I collect all the ears, spread them out on the table and spray them thoroughly with Lysol spray.

Today a little girl asked me, "Why do you do that?"

"Just in case any of you have fleas," I answered.

"That's probably a good thing," she said.

"Oh?"

"Yeah. I got treated for head lice over the weekend."

I'm doubltful that Lysol will work. One suggestion is to put the headbands into a garbage bag with cedar shavings for a few days.

Heat or cold will do it, Glynndah. Gasoline, too, but don't use it with heat.

It's even more fun when they are parents themselves. You can smile as you give the little one back as if to day "Your turn !"

A local lady who looks after children often has to deal with head lice. She swaers by Licenex. It's a shampoo that kills lice and nits on contact. It can also be used in the wash.

Lysol is just a waste of time. Either run them through a dryer or tie them up in a plastic bag for a few days. Thankfully, lice have evolved to live only on us, so separate them from us for a short period of time, and they are goners.
