Karzai calls for Nato-led troops to withdraw from rural areas as Taliban suspend talks with US

International troops should pull out of villages and rural areas to main bases, Afghanistan's president has said.

Hamid Karzai, angered by a US soldier's killing of 16 civilians, said Afghan forces should take the lead for countrywide security in 2013, ahead of the planned withdrawal of coalition troops in 2014.

And in a blow to the campaign in Afghanistan, the Taliban said it was breaking off talks with the United States, claiming the US kept changing the terms of negotiations.

In a statement after meeting visiting US defence secretary Leon Panetta, Mr Karzai said: "Afghan security forces have the ability to keep the security in rural areas and in villages on their own."

ooh dear team cuntistan.... you still have not managed to bomb poor little Afghanistan back to the stoneage...... you really should have taken the simple route after 911 and attacked the Saudis :D

You do realize this is all because the tree hugging, wine sipping, hippie dick sucks back in the states who don't know a FUCKING thing about warfare want a politically correct (fail) war right?

If we just started wiping villages off the map for bad behavior they would either comply by policing themselves...or be destroyed. The war would have been over in 2002.

This whole heart's and mind's police state action is bullshit. There are only 2 ways to win a war.

1) complete and unconditional submission/surrender.

or

2) complete and total annihilation.

There is NO in between....and if america wasn't willing to accept that...we should have never gone.

We should have done what we did in Vietnam, disarm and evacuate innocent civilians from targeted areas, declare a free fire zone, and kill every male citizen moving in the area carrying a firearm.

also effective.....in conjunction with issuing orders to all the citizenry

"if one bullet, bomb, RPG or IED comes out of your village the entire thing will be vaporized. No exceptions, no survivors.....police your neighbors."

and I guarantee after you did it a few times joe the farmer who just wants to raise a family and make a living would be on our side ratting out the taliban.

If we received fire from a ville in Nam it went up in smoke.

It was like that at the start of this war...notice the casualties were far fewer in numbers the first couple years?

Someone screwed up? we fucking killed them... if we couldn't the A-10 warthog or Apache on the other end of that radio would.

Then we shifted to this whole hearts and minds bullshit at the end of 05 and the casualties started mounting, like immediately.

Agreed.

We should have done what we did in Vietnam, disarm and evacuate innocent civilians from targeted areas, declare a free fire zone, and kill every military aged male citizen moving in the area carrying a firearm.

As I recall ultimately that didn't work. Nor did destroying the jungle so they'd have no place to hide. Ultimately we ended up leaving and the people we'd sworn to protect got slaughtered and you lot came back rather fucked over all because you were so afraid your philosophy would be overwhelmed that you jumped into a conflict you really had no reason to.

Once again....politicians who thought they knew what they are doing put out bullshit PC ROE so they could have a 'nice' war to put on the TV. If we leveled the entire city of Hanoi and other prime targets the war would have been over in a week as they all came out of the wood work screaming "Oh god the horror! please no more we will do anything just don't kill all of us!!!".

If you keep giving the enemy political boundaries to hide behind etc. you will be defeated, esp if you are fighting a war against an idea. Break them or exterminate them by any means necessary or don't start the war.

Actually, I have to agree with you, especially with the Afganie tribes. Historically, only two forces ever really 'won' in Afganistan. Alexander the Great ('cause he was just passing through') and Tamerlame (Who did slaughter entire towns and villages at the first hint of resistance).

We should have done what we did in Vietnam, disarm and evacuate innocent civilians from targeted areas, declare a free fire zone, and kill every military aged male citizen moving in the area carrying a firearm.

With all due respect for your service in Vietnam, ultimately, that policy wasn't terribly effective. In the end, the VC and NVA were able to infiltrate the relocation camps, and the people living there weren't terribly happy about having to move from places where their families had lived for generations.
