Obama accepts $1M donation from Bill Maher while condemning Rush Limbaugh

I looked up this little hissy fit that people are having and most of the articles address your point. They say Obama should disassociate from them until they give the money back themselves or they are asking the superPAC directly to give it back.
Far as I saw they all concede that Obama can't give it back himself.

Obama cannot associate nor disassociate with them.

You may be of the opinion that it is "corporate welfare". But the FCC doesn't look at it that way.

You might want to take a look at this.

Been there. Done that. It still doesn't change the fact that broadcasts licenses are distributed to communications corporations at way below market value. It's a tax payer give away to corporations. Just because the FCC is filled with lobbyists who hop between industry and government positions doesn't change that fact.

But wait a sec.

I thought when Maher called Palin a cunt, it was freedom of speech

1. Palin is a public figure.

2. The comment was not made on the public airwaves subsidized by tax payers.

3. Palin is a cunt.

I think vetteman wants to start a campaign to boycott all of Bill Maher's sponsors. Too bad he has none.

Hey Phro, talking about boycotts, and I'm talking radio, do you recall the Republicans boycotting (or trying to boycott) any progressive liberal radio station..?.. ever....?...... I'm talking like... Doctor Laura, when they tried to get her off the air.

The people you're talking to right know choose not to believe in facts such as this. They will respond with no facts of their own to counter yours, instead preferring to resort to their line about how facts have a liberal bias.

Which conservatives listen to liberal talk radio in the first place? That's like vegans declaring one day that they're boycotting pork chops.

When did Maher call Palin a slut?

Reallly good recap HERE.

That op-ed also discusses how whiny Republicans are playin' the victim card because Bill Maher went after poor defenseless Sarah Palin

Edited to add...THE MONEY QUOTE!
Most fundamentally, why the impulse to counter one outrageous stunt by rummaging through the archives in search of some supposedly offsetting outrageous stunt? Why not respond to an indecent act on its own terms, and then -- if there's another indecency later -- react to that too, and on its own terms?

Instead, public life is reduced to a revenge drama. Each offense is condoned by reference to some previous offense by some undefined "them" who supposedly once did something even worse, or anyway nearly as bad, at some point in the past.

1. Of course, I forgot, it's okay to call a public figure a cunt.
You figure Michelle Obama is a cunt?

2. Of course, I forgot again, it's okay if Maher calls Palin a cunt on HBO.

3. Drixxy, your mind is fucked up.

So two wrongs make a right? Is that what your birthmother instilled in you? Hmmm?

Im not "ok" with it, however she is a public figure and what kind of country would we be if we weren't allowed to criticize/make fun of, our leaders?

I'm actually not really sure why there is so much outrage for Rush's statement, hes said lots of really horrible things before, thats his thing. He wants people talking about him so he goes out of his way to be outrageous. However, unlike Maher, Rush cant hide behind the title of "comedian".

1. Michelle Obama is the First Lady. A non-political figure and not a cunt.

2. Sarah Palin is a public, political figure. She takes controversial positions on public policy and casually describes patriotic political opponents as terrorists.

3. Palin is a cunt.

I think America as a whole is slowly realizing just how low the sleazy fringe right Limbaugh/Vetteman/Miles wing of the Republican party will sink. They'll tear into anyone, any time, for simply voicing an opinion that runs contrary to their dogma.

That doesn't actually answer my question. I want to know when and what specifically Maher said. Was it on his Friday Night show or was it part of his stand up routine or one of his movies. There is actually a difference.

Obama cannot associate nor disassociate with them.

Of course he can. All he'd have to do is publicly say so. That's what some of them are asking for. He can't control what they do with the money but he can say he doesn't agree with it.

*laughing*...... Uhhh, RDS, your cliché is about as dumb as.... "We want them to pay their fair share"... or how about this one, it goes back several decades.. "The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer".

Or a newer one..."Change we can believe in".....Yup "Hope and change"......:)

Look up at my post... #61 and get back to me, m'kay?

kthxbye.

So then where does it stop? All manner of unsavory people, corporations, and other more nebulous entities contribute to PACs. If Obama has to publicly come out against a donor then both sides have to sift through all their donors and assemble laundry lists of disowning.

Or does only Obama have to do it?
