Valedictorian fights deportation

Is there a reason that you've decided to grace us with your presence after 6 years of silence? We were doing just fine without you.
He just thought of the perfect comeback for something someone called him back then.

I have zero sympathy for any illegal immigrants, regardless of their age or status. There are proper ways to go about becoming a citizen. I guarantee this valedictorian taking whatever genius level classes she is taking knows full well and has known for sometime that she and her family are illegal immigrants. Sucks to be her, but you should be deported. Those are the rules. See ya.

Deport the whole family and seize all their assets and give them to pubic schools that they stole an education from...and find the parents employers and fine them as well.

As for the topic, I agree with a lot of people here, they're illegal. If a person breaks the law it doesn't matter how smart they are, they still have to pay the price. Sometimes it sucks but that's the breaks.

My first thought too, when I read the thread title. What does the valedictorian part have to do with it?

Apparently.

TexasWife, did you miss this question?

Its the title of the CNN story.

I am by no means pro-illegal immigration. What should be done about the sisters? I dont know. Is it fair to punish them for a crime their parents committed? Does it encourage more illegal immigration to allow the girls to become citizens?

Like I said, I posted the story, more because of the comments attached then the actual story. The world is not black and white. I would call this a bit of a cluster-fuck. These girls may not have been born in America, but in every other way that should count, they are Americans. Yet the sheer hostility that comes out when discussing these children is staggering. I was honestly surprised when I scrolled the comments(on the cnn story) that not one person even sympathized with the situation these children are in.

Oh and I wouldnt say being smart makes them more "worthy" of sympathy. I think the point was to highlight that the family is your classic "American dream" family. The children are gifted with bright futures, their brother is serving our country and both their parents work.

She got a good education for free. Count her lucky stars she wasnt captured a week before finals.

Shit happens. I lost an election by one vote. I caught mumps on finals week and ate the zeros.

In the Auschwitz gas chambers all the bodies were formed in piles as people died, thats cuz people climbed atop each other to rise above the poison gas. Babes and kiddies on the bottom, women in the middle, and men on top. Occasionally a child on the floor survived the gas, the floors were wet and the gas pellets arent lethal in the presence of water. So the child was revived by an MD, then shot by the SS.

Gee, they broke the law and now they are getting punished.
Do you suppose the thread starter would use as an example a drunk illegal immigrant who ran over a liberal Democrat (but I repeat myself) handing out "Free Che!" leaflets?
I
Don't
Think
So

I think Che is dead.

They should go back to Colombia and continue with the college application process. They might be more attractive candidates that way anyway, and are almost certain to get a better financial aid package.

Your OP was a cut and paste of part of the CNN story, with a link to the rest of it. You didn't say anything at all about the comments.

In spite of what you're saying here, you seem quite explicitly upset that these two smart and accomplished girls and their family are being subject to the same laws as our "other" illegal immigrants.

When I grew up, I had friends who would say, like they were teaching me something, "There are black people, and there are niggers. I don't hate black people. I hate niggers."

Whether you mean to or not, you're making the same argument.

People noticed, so you're backing off a bit. But it's still there.

What does being valedictorian have to do with the issue? The law is the law, send them back to Columbia.

The story caught my eye more for the comments section then the article itself.
The complete lack of any sort of sympathy, for 2 innocent children who did nothing wrong surprised me.

I do feel there is a big difference in punishing adults, and punishing children. If it were just the parents being deported, or the children were still very young and hadnt been in the country long, I would feel this was more a cut and dry case. I am actually not in the least bit upset they are being "subject to the same laws as others". Not sure where you got that. I was upset by the lack of compassion for the children.

Yep, times are hard when you break the law. Their parents ought to be billed for the education as well.

Both parents have continued to work on their expired visas ... so I assume they have been paying taxes like everyone else.

Although I do think something should happen to the companies who hired the parents off of the expired visas.

Theyre 18 years old. Only liberals think people under 65 are kids.

If minor children were brought here illegally by their parents, they should be allowed to stay and apply for citizenship when they reach 18.

We are really becoming a nation of hate-filled war mongers. We'd rather blow a country to hell, then spend the next decade rebuilding it, then take care of our own.

In principle I don't have a problem with this but who takes care of them until they're 18?
